Rudy or Sid (Sidney) which do you prefer ?

Morning all,
So, c section booked for 2 weeks time and this baby boy doesn't have a name. We had decided on Rudy, but DH has now thrown Sidney back into the mix last min! It had been taken out of the running due to me hearing it three times down the park in the space of a couple of days and deciding it was too popular, but from what I can remember, that was the only reason it was taken off the list.
Middle name will be Jack !
I like both of the names, so I guess this is a bit of a poll rather than opinions, although I'm intested by those too...... Thanks ! X

My Rudy is a teenager and has never had an issue with the things people have imagined here.

My husband has a name that is a very popular boys name (and a royal price) and it rhymes with pooey, he got called that at school yet you never see that on Louis name threads! Unusual names really get some peoples backs up on MN!

I like River but it is also a marmite name, of Rudy and Sid I think Sid is a lot nicer

They are both girls

I wouldnt personally go with Rudie, just because i can imagine kids will take the mick

I have only heard rudie meaning fart in Cork.
I'd go for Frank over Sid.

Hi, thank you again for all the replies...
We are going to stick with Rudy we don't call being naked in our house nudy Rudy ( mainly because I don't see being naked as being rude !) or do we call farts Rudys either, they are either trumps or tumbos if its my three year old announcing she's just done one ! I've never heard anyone from where we live use that term, so it's not enough to put me off the name.

It was most useful to hear from the parents who have kids called Rudy and reassuring that they've never encounterd any name calling, so thank you. I think kids will always find something to be mean about if they are determined enough, I know a girl that was called is-a-bellend ( Isabelle) at school and that name always gets a lot of love on here ! Also jack the sp**k , horrible !

After seeing some of the comments on here about Sidney, all I can picture now is a slithery snake of an old man, which isn't what I want when I think about my baby !

Rudy is a great name. What is the root word? It has a nice meaning.
Remember, whatever name you do choose will mean something totally different in some other language or slang. If it doesn't mean something today, it will tomorrow. So if you like a name, go with it. There are some lovely pictures you can put up in the nursery which has the name and its meaning. When you introduce it in a considered manner and develop a positive name and identity culture around the child, things should be ok. All the best with whichever name you choose
