Morning all,
So, c section booked for 2 weeks time and this baby boy doesn't have a name. We had decided on Rudy, but DH has now thrown Sidney back into the mix last min! It had been taken out of the running due to me hearing it three times down the park in the space of a couple of days and deciding it was too popular, but from what I can remember, that was the only reason it was taken off the list.
Middle name will be Jack !
I like both of the names, so I guess this is a bit of a poll rather than opinions, although I'm intested by those too...... Thanks ! X

I absolutely love Rudy and DS2 was going to be Rudy for a while but it just didn’t sound like a proper name and I’m the last person to give a long name for the sake of it: he was certainly never going to be Rudolf that’s for sure!

xprincessxjanetx · 18/09/2021 00:41

I prefer Rudy

ohfook · 19/09/2021 11:07

Rudy from the book thief
Rudy from misfits
A message to you Rudy

It's the coolest boys' name I can think of. Why wouldn't you call your kid Rudy is a better question imo.

Blubells · 19/09/2021 11:15

Because many people don't like the Rude sound of Rudy. Some people call farts Rudeys.

Phyllis321 · 19/09/2021 11:18

Sid/Syd.

I like Rudy but wouldn’t call my kid it.

Pennylane87 · 19/09/2021 21:11

Thanks for all your replies...

Both names getting some love/hate there !!

I have never once heard of or called a fart a Rudy, or have I ever called me kids Rudy for being naked or heard that term, It must be a regional thing.
A lot of people mentioning it though!

Why are boys names so difficult Confused

I like Sid, nice for a teen too.

thegreylady · 21/09/2021 16:09

We used to have a little rhyme
Stocking tops
And legalodes
And…RUDIES!
If someone’s skirt was too short.
For that rather silly reason I prefer Sid(ney).

Blubells · 21/09/2021 17:17

The problem with Rudy in English is that it's basically Rude with a y.

Works much better in German where it doesn't mean anything.

Anothernamechange3 · 21/09/2021 17:54

I love Rudy. I’m often amazed on this board how many adults will mock another name in the way a school bully would and think this is a justification for not being able to use a name. You can make a silly rhyme/insult about anyone’s name, or anything else about them for that matter but that doesn’t make it ok. We should all have non mockable names and nothing about us that’s out of the ordinary otherwise people will naturally be mean to us?

Blubells · 21/09/2021 18:52

Nobody should be mean to anyone!

The op asked for opinions on names. That's what people are doing - giving honest opinions.

pommepommefrites · 21/09/2021 19:05

Sidney is awful, just reminds me of Sidney cooke 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

PoshWatchShitShoes · 21/09/2021 19:06

I don't like either. We do have a lovely friend called Rudy though, so if it had to be one of those, I'd chose that

Pennylane87 · 22/09/2021 14:14

Pretty much an even split !
I think we are gonna have to wait till we see him and get him home to decide !

I didn't really worry about Rudy being associated with farts and being naked until starting this thread, but now I'm concerned !
Slightly more concerned about the mention of Sidney Cooke, not nice !
Sidney does seem to be giving off some creepy old man vibes to a few people which I hadn't thought about either till now. Maybe I'll just call him Jack and be done with it, oh no wait, Jack the ripper....

Jack is much nicer.

Jack will be his middle name which is DH name Smile

Rudy contains the word 'rude' in English, so problematic as pps have said. Plus sounds too much like the girls' name Ruby.

Sid/Sidney makes me think of a wizened little old man. Or Sid Vicious (dead punk rocker, probably before your time).

So sorry OP, not keen on either of your choices.

PileOfBooks · 22/09/2021 14:28

Yep Sidney is dirty old man to me (not sure why) and Rudey is nudy rudey like you would say to a child. A bit like when I discovered Randy was a name in America!

Pennylane87 · 22/09/2021 14:35

I'm well aware of Sid vicious, I'm probably not as young as you think !

Other choices we had were Frank and River.... Should we be throwing them back into the mix ?? Girls names are so much easier, I picked out my three DD's names early on and just stuck with them !

I'm not usually one to be at all swayed by peoples opinions, but there are definitely some common themes on here !

Pemba · 22/09/2021 14:37

River is nice.

LadyDanburysHat · 22/09/2021 14:39

I like Rudi (that spelling) but also have a real soft spot for Sid

Pennylane87 · 22/09/2021 15:00

@Pemba

River is nice.
Issue with river is our surname is a bit like island....

Eastenders actress just called her baby Rudy.

Frank is also nice, maybe put Francis on birth certificate for official stuff?

Rudy is nice. I've lived in four areas of the UK and have never heard of the naked or fart things. It seems a bit childish and rather daft anyway, rude is an adjective so why add the -y on. Then again, colloquialisms are a funny thing! I think if you're unaware of it then so will other people local to you so it shouldn't affect your son as he grows up.
