Morning all,
So, c section booked for 2 weeks time and this baby boy doesn't have a name. We had decided on Rudy, but DH has now thrown Sidney back into the mix last min! It had been taken out of the running due to me hearing it three times down the park in the space of a couple of days and deciding it was too popular, but from what I can remember, that was the only reason it was taken off the list.
Middle name will be Jack !
I like both of the names, so I guess this is a bit of a poll rather than opinions, although I'm intested by those too...... Thanks ! X

I have a Rudy! Still love it 4 years on!
He's never been called nudey lol.
Also he has Rudy on his birth certificate 😄

DramaAlpaca · 16/09/2021 15:44

Sidney.

Definitely not Rudy. It's a euphemism for fart here Grin

tothesea · 16/09/2021 16:03

Literally never called a child rudey for any reason. Never heard a fart being called that either 🤷‍♀️. It all depends if these euphemisms are used in OP’s area. Go for Rudy OP…it’s such a cool name.

Rudy

Wole · 16/09/2021 16:21

Sidney

EdgeOfTheSky · 16/09/2021 16:25

@RosyPoesy

Nudey Rudy is definitely not suitable as a British name. Who hasn’t told their kid they’re a Rudy for not putting their pants on?
Me.

Never said rudey to mean rude.

SirChenjins · 16/09/2021 16:25

I've heard Rudy for a fart too Grin

Sidney is up there with Cyril and Herbert - just not nice sounding.

EdgeOfTheSky · 16/09/2021 16:26

Both great names.

squee123 · 16/09/2021 16:31

Sid makes me think of ageing punk rockers for some reason.

I know an adult Rudy. Good name. Although he is sick of everyone singing the Kaiser Chiefs song at him. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, da-da-da etc.

I don't imagine kids will remember that song though.

AlwaysLatte · 16/09/2021 16:33

Sidney

whatausername · 16/09/2021 16:47

Rudy by a country mile. Sid always makes me think of a greasy, slithery, slimy letch for some reason. Not sure why, there must be some kind of pop culture association somewhere!

EdgeOfTheSky · 16/09/2021 17:09

LOL at PP.

Sid Vicious.

That’s the association.

MrMeSeeks · 16/09/2021 17:49

That was Ruby wasn't it.
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 16/09/2021 17:55

Rudy is a great name.

Flumo · 16/09/2021 18:05

Definitely Sidney :)

nocoolnamesleft · 16/09/2021 18:10

Definitely Ice Age. So Rudy is a vicious ill tempered carnivorous dinosaur. And Sid is a dozy but well meaning ground sloth. Probably better go with Sid.

Twinkie01 · 16/09/2021 20:25

Love Rudy. Think Sidney sounds common.

I like Cedric too though.

GiveIrelandBackToTheIrish · 16/09/2021 20:58

Rudy

Balonzette · 17/09/2021 00:23

Rudy 100%.

And it is a standalone name - well, I know a Dutch Rudy, a South African Rudy, and a German Rudy who are just Rudy (adults).

It's international and cool and strong and lovely.

I've never heard "rudey" except on MN how strange. Should we also not use Jude as it rhymes with rude?

Sid is okay. Reminds me of a grumpy British grandad in the pub.

Blubells · 17/09/2021 08:07

Rhyming isn't a problem imo. But in English Rudy literally sounds like Rude - y!

And some people call farts Rudeys Blush

GoodnightGrandma · 17/09/2021 08:09

I like Rudy, but I prefer Sid to Sidney.

NailsNeedDoing · 17/09/2021 08:11

Definitely not Rudy.

It’s nothing to do with rhyming - it’s rude-y. As in fart.

Go for Sydney/Sidney so Syd/Sid where as Rudy reminds me of Rudy Giuliani with the hair dye running down his face.
