So as suspected I am all over the place today and undecided about Elizabeth Olive! (Little girl born yesterday)

Which do you prefer??

She looks like an Alice but dp chose yesterday to tell me it is friend’s dd’s name and we can’t have that

Olive is growing on me, but if your DP doesn’t like it as a first name I guess it’s ruled out.
I’d be reluctant to go with Elizabeth if you don’t like Liz or Lizzie.

I always think of Olive Oyl with Popeye.

If you like Alice then why name her that? So what if it's his friends daughters name. They don't own the rights to it. Can you guarantee that your husband will stay friends for ever? Suppose they drift apart and you regret not using the name you wanted.

I think she is about 5/6!
It just feels right when I say Alice! I’m trying to think of it the other way and whether I would be cross someone had used dd’s name for their newborn. I wouldn’t be!
Me and dp will discuss this eve. Not had chance properly as he wasn’t allowed on the ward.

Please ask the other family! We really loved a name for our first DS and ruled it out as DH had a good friend with a son (7 at the time) with the same name. They were so gracious and kind (and completely unbothered by it!) We used them name, we also then moved away a couple of years later and now just send Christmas cards etc. To think we wouldn’t have used a name (9 years ago!) for someone who is now such a small part of our lives. I’m sure no one will mind at all.

In order of how nice these names are:

1. Alice. Lovely name . Classic too.

1. Elizabeth. Elegant, classic, etc.

1. Olive. Quirky I suppose. OK as a middle name I suppose. It's funny because it's so close to Olivia, which is lovely.

You really, really don't need to. It's not a gift or anything to get worked up about.

Elizabeth Alice is just so timeless - two of the most classic "English" names out there (rarely ever left the top 100). It's lovely.

But I think Alice goes just as well with Sofia (both very international), and I don't see why you can't use it, if it's only a friends daughter that you don't see very often? (it's a popular name so you wouldn't be "copying").

Call her Alice

If my BFF used the same name as me I would think that would make us even closer and imagine the kods growing up together as little Besties
