So as suspected I am all over the place today and undecided about Elizabeth Olive! (Little girl born yesterday)

Which do you prefer??

Elizabeth Olive
Olive Elizabeth
Elizabeth Alice

She looks like an Alice but dp chose yesterday to tell me it is friend’s dd’s name and we can’t have that Sad

Oh sorry I got it the wrong way round - if you love Alice Elizabeth then go for that.

PiuVinoPerFavore · 08/07/2021 15:25

Elizabeth Olive. Have read your other threads and it feels like you definitely have your heart set on Olive. I'd put Elizabeth first, it goes better with Sofia and there are so many lovely diminutives. Congratulations OP!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/07/2021 15:26

Congratulations!

go with Elizabeth Olive

EssentialHummus · 08/07/2021 15:29

Elizabeth Alice or Alice Elizabeth. And congratulations! Hope you're getting loads of squishy cuddles.

Joolsin · 08/07/2021 15:31

Elizabeth Olive - lovely name

Mydogisagentleman · 08/07/2021 15:34

Olive, love that name

cindarellasbelly · 08/07/2021 15:38

I really like Olive, and know a little Olive at nursery and it really suits her.

One thing I'd be wondering is how you feel about all the shortenings of Elizabeth? Because really, nobody is going to know her middle name, she'll just be Elizabeth: which I absolutely love, but I don't personally like Liz. So after much agonising - I like Lizzie, Eliza, and Beth, its only Liz I don't - and a conversation with a friend who was always called 'Elizabeth' by her parents and schoolfriend but found every workplace called her Liz, and her husband calls her Liz, I decided not to do it.

I don't think its so terrible to have the same name as a good friends child if they'll not be the same age/near each other all the time. I think Elizabeth Olive is lovely, I think Olive Elizabeth is lovely too.

TatianaBis · 08/07/2021 15:41

I think Alice and Sofia works best together. If you don’t see them often it really doesn’t matter.

Of the other options: Elizabeth Alice.

AlwaysonEtsy · 08/07/2021 15:42

Dp doesn’t like Olive (as first name) so I shouldn’t have put that option really!
And yes I don’t like Liz or Lizzie ☹️

If you don’t like Liz or Lizzie then ditch that as she will always be known by those.

I have a friend called Elizabeth she is variously Liz, Lizzie, Eliza.

If you like Eliza or Elise what about those?

Jellyfishnchips · 08/07/2021 15:44

Congratulations! Another vote for Elizabeth Alice, sounds lovely ( or Alice as a first name), sorry not too keen on Olive

periwinkle86 · 08/07/2021 15:57

It sounds like you are really leaning towards Alice - if you don’t like some of the nicknames for Elizabeth and your DP doesn’t like Olive. Plus I think now you’ve seen her and she looks like an Alice it’ll be hard to get that out of your head!

So I would say go for Alice Elizabeth - a lovely name! Could your DP perhaps speak to his friend and see if he would mind? As others have said, no one owns a name, and it’s not as though Alice is an unheard of name that they’ve chosen because it’s unique.

Congratulations!!

cindarellasbelly · 08/07/2021 15:59

If you don't like Liz or Lizzie, then Elizabeth has to be out as a name. The "Liz" I know has said she basically spent 15 years of her life fighting against being a Liz and trying to be an Elizabeth before she gave up, and that was with her on board: with exposure to nursery and schoolfriend its really likely your DD may choose Liz or Lizzie herself.

If your DH doesn't like Olive, that's ruled out too.

Did you have any more names on a long list? Is this making you realise you're still really attached to Alice?

Ninkanink · 08/07/2021 16:02

If you don’t like Liz or Lizzie then I really wouldn’t go with Elizabeth as first name - as others have said, it will definitely be shortened.

OldTinHat · 08/07/2021 16:16

Congratulations! Elizabeth Alice Olive. Ta daaaaa - use all of them, why on earth not! 🥰

TillyTheTiger · 08/07/2021 16:20

Alice Elizabeth. Definitely! Unless it's your niece or nephew I don't think it's a problem picking a name that has already been used by someone else you know. It's a compliment!

Ninkanink · 08/07/2021 16:21

Alice Elizabeth Olive! As pp said, why not!

Also, congratulations on your new little one. 💐

katielou987 · 08/07/2021 16:25

I love Alice Elizabeth. It's so pretty, classic and just a beautiful name. Congratulations x

CrouchEndTiger12 · 08/07/2021 16:27

Olive is a very old sounding name.

Elizabeth Alice

Or just call her Alice as it is clearly what you want. Why can't you give a popular name just because someone else used it.

She has only just been born you have weeks to decide. Chill out Smile

MargosKaftan · 08/07/2021 16:28

If you love the name Alice, call her Alice! Perhaps dh could message the friend and say you both love the name and think it suits her, but he wanted to check they wouldn't mind you naming your child the same name. Bet they will say its fine.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/07/2021 16:41

@AlwaysonEtsy

this is what I would do: I'd pick one name randomly and call her that for a few days.
then switch to another name for a few days, then to the last.

see which feels best to use

there's no rush to choose, you have 6 weeks to register the birth so don't panic.

AbsolutelySure · 08/07/2021 16:48

If you call her Elizabeth she will decide for herself what she wants to be called when she's older. I doubt people would shorten a baby's name to Liz.

My name is Elizabeth, I was called this until I was happy to be called Liz by my friends, now I'm called Liz or Lizzie, I don't mind either, occasionally it's Elizabeth. I have a friend called Elizabeth and that's what she's known as, she corrects people if they were to call her by anything other.

Whatever you choose to call her, choose it for the now because you'll have no choice as she makes her own decisions growing up.

My brother is called Michael, no one calls him this, he has a nickname instead.

RuthW · 08/07/2021 17:03

Elizabeth Alice is beautiful

Violetparis · 08/07/2021 17:10

Another vote for Elizabeth Alice. Think Olive is an ugly name and makes me think of On The Buses too but many under the age of 45 may not get this reference.

campion · 08/07/2021 17:12

Alice Elizabeth or Elizabeth Alice. Both very pretty and classic.
Don't like Olive at all I'm afraid.

Your DP may not have thought his objection through very well (I'm being diplomatic). You don't need anyone's approval to call her Alice; not even his friend's Wink
