Not sure about that but high on our list was Jonty until we realised the religious connection (we're Atheists).

AlwaysLatte · 27/06/2021 14:36

It's a fecking daffodil. Behave.
Gosh yes so it is! PLEASE don't name your son after a daffodil!

LynetteScavo · 27/06/2021 14:53

My mum once had a colleague whose son was called Jonquil. He was odd, but I think very, academic. Or maybe just odd. Even as a child I thought it was a silly name.

NavigationCentral · 27/06/2021 14:58

Sounds like medication.

lolacola77 · 27/06/2021 15:01

Daffodil! 😂

daisypond · 27/06/2021 15:04

It’s fine. I like it. Definitely a girl’s name. Is that the correct pronunciation, though?

daisypond · 27/06/2021 15:09

I’m muddling it with Jonquille, I think.

PansyIvy · 27/06/2021 15:11

It’s definitely a name for a girl, as most flower names tend to be.

I’m not a fan. John-Quill. About as lovely sounding as Peter-Biro.

AuntieStella · 27/06/2021 15:27

I used to know one when I was at school, so have always considered it a perfectly normal name!

I like it

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 27/06/2021 18:52

What an embarrassing set of replies.

It’s a botanical name, for a girl. Just like Lily / Rose / Daisy / Holly / Jasmine / Violet / Poppy / Heather. Unusual but not made-up or youneek.

GreyhoundG1rl · 27/06/2021 18:58

Nobody suggested it was made up Confused

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 19:02

@GreyhoundG1rl

Nobody suggested it was made up Confused
"made up" 🤣

all names are made up
all words are made up
and property is theft

GreyhoundG1rl · 27/06/2021 19:05

Well, we know it's the name of a fecking flower...

So is Tulip. Doesn't make it a good name for your child (not where I'm from, anyway!)

MrsUnderkracker · 27/06/2021 19:06

Never .

It's ridiculous.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 19:07

it's also a name for a pale yellow colour (I have Swarovski beads with that colour code)

so yeah, definitely not made up by OP!!

NotTheCatsWhiskers · 27/06/2021 19:24

It’s awful. I assumed it was a boys name. It’s just so ugly and clunky sounding.

romdowa · 27/06/2021 19:25

It sounds made up 🙈🙈 sorry

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 19:26

@romdowa

It sounds made up 🙈🙈 sorry
again, all names are made up

your name was made up at some point

Helenluvsrob · 27/06/2021 19:27

Love it. Had a friend with that name as a kid. Seemed very exotic at the time. Such a unique name I now know what she does for a living too 😂

Yutes · 27/06/2021 19:28

What about Torquil?

Umberellatheweatha · 27/06/2021 19:29

Theres an Australian series about a ghost rockstar who comes back to haunt the apartment he died in and one of the main actresses us called jonquill.

Have to say it didn't sound right to the ears ti me. It's a terribly fussy name. And sounds masculine. I'd skip it.

The series was fun though xD

saraclara · 27/06/2021 19:29

One of those names that looks pretty and comes from a pretty thing, but sounds awful, and will end up with a girl called Jon.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 27/06/2021 19:34

@Yutes

What about Torquil?
Very much a boys’ name.
Yutes · 27/06/2021 19:36

Sorry. Didn’t RTFT. Presumed it was for a boy.

HelebethH · 27/06/2021 19:48

I once knew a little girl called Jonquill. Her mother was French and and when pronounced in the French accent sounded lovely. Think Jean pronouned the french way zhon and quielle .
