Pronounced Jon-kwil a name I’ve always liked and nature related bur is it too much?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/06/2021 12:41

It’s not an attractive sound for a name, boy or girl. Awful!

Viviennemary · 27/06/2021 12:42

Its dire.

SameToo · 27/06/2021 12:43

This thread has made me laugh 😂 Sorry op. Maybe as a middle name?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 12:46

baby Jonquil
and her siblings: Quinoa & Yogah Matt

NeedNewKnees · 27/06/2021 12:48

It’s a colour, isn’t it? Yellow.

custardbear · 27/06/2021 12:51

It doesn't sound very feminine for a girl, but a bit too feminine for a boy ... I know that doesn't make sense but hey ho 😵‍💫

If you like nature names what about sorrel, Hebe, Linden, Tempest

SunSeaSurfGin · 27/06/2021 12:53

It's awful I'm afraid. Sounds like something you find in a medicine cabinet or cleaning cupboard

It also sounds made you

Floralnomad · 27/06/2021 12:56

Absolutely awful .

TwinsAndTrifle · 27/06/2021 13:00

Please don't name your child Jonquil.

It sounds like a herbal sleep aid.

Velvetbee · 27/06/2021 13:00

I knew one years ago, she was absolutely lovely. Unusual but certainly not made up.

user1493494961 · 27/06/2021 13:01

Jonquils were my Mum's favourite flower. Not keen on it as a girl's name (definitely not for a boy) but I've heard worse.

Hallyup6 · 27/06/2021 13:09

40 years ago, my mum's friend was determined, all through pregnancy, that if she had a daughter she would be named Jonquil.

She ended up with a Jennifer.

Cbeebiesrehab · 27/06/2021 13:12

The ‘Jon’ part makes it sound masculine to me. I don’t like it-sorry.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/06/2021 13:12

I'm not sure. I thinks it's one of those names that would get shortened by most people and you'd have a 50/50 chance of them not liking it as an adult.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/06/2021 13:14

Yep, boarding school stories and one is mentioned in a Gerald Durrell book. I'm not sure it would be top of my list, but it's nice enough.

Riapia · 27/06/2021 13:18

Better if it’s pronounced Yong keel.

LassyClassy · 27/06/2021 13:20

I'm sure it was the name of a cow in (possibly) an Enid Blyton book.
I don't like it sorry!

Toilenstripes · 27/06/2021 13:22

Sounds like a 90s birth control pill.

PattyPan · 27/06/2021 13:40

I assumed it was for a boy, in which case it’s very wet, but somehow it’s too masculine for a girl.

Biscuitsneeded · 27/06/2021 13:40

It means daffodil, and it is a name and not made up, but I'm not sure any future Jonquil will thank you for it!

TatianaBis · 27/06/2021 14:16

Anything out of the ordinary on here and posters go bananas.

It's just a flower people, calm down.

I like it for a girl, but I think the pronunciation might cause issues.

mrsmoppp · 27/06/2021 14:17

Sounds like a hayfever medication

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 27/06/2021 14:18

Sounds like a boy name to me. Wouldn’t wish it on either sex but a poor girl called jonquil?
Jonquil & Hector / Barnaby 🙈

MadMadMadamMim · 27/06/2021 14:20

We had a Jersey cow named this when I was a kid.

FabulouslyFab · 27/06/2021 14:21

I love it!!
