I love the sound of it. My only issues is Ms Lestrange Shock would the association still be made? Does it matter?

“I dont think I see her as evil as other characters, I dont know. I'd like to think it will start making a comeback of it's own.”

She’s such a psychopath Shock

Gullible2021 · 22/06/2021 21:03

How can a name that's never been used as a popular name (or even a name at all) make a comeback?!

Atlas and Orion are rightly slated on here too. Bellatrix is a sadist...why would you want to name your kid after a fictional witch based on the most evil of Nazis who everyone else sees as a warped psychopath, even if you can't see it that way?

motherofawhirlwind · 22/06/2021 21:06

We have a cat named Bellatrix after Ms Lestrange. The other Black sister was Andromeda - any good?

GinPink · 22/06/2021 21:07

And yes Lucius and Narcissa are ok choices?

No they are not. Neither is Bellatrix

Go for one of these instead

As several people have said, it's the name of a star - but it's only the name of a PERSON in HP. Hence why the connection is so strong!

Atlas and Orion aren't my taste, but they are names of mythological characters, so it's fair enough to say they are personal names. JKR used lots of these mythological names.

Lucius, Albus etc are Roman names. Lots of these in HP too.

The star Bellatrix is just named "(female) warrior". It's just a word in Latin, not a name. So JKR didn't make it up exactly, but it wasn't a long-standing personal name.

Suspect this might be a wind-up tbh...

amatsip · 22/06/2021 21:32

@BiscuitLover09876

They're all real names Wink

I find it funny how people think a name is crazy then suddenly everyone uses it and it's all ok e.g. Atlas and Orion.

I dont think I see her as evil as other characters, I dont know. I'd like to think it will start making a comeback of it's own.

Bellatrix killed Sirius,Dobby, Nevilles parents amongst others, she was a thoroughly evil character.
ODFOx · 22/06/2021 21:49

To be fair, she didn't murder the Longbottoms;, she just used the unforgivable cruciatus torture curse on them until they went insane and were irrevocably brain damaged..... oh, wait, that's a fate worse than death isn't it? Never mind.

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 22/06/2021 21:54

@Dollywilde

Sorry, hard veto. It’s like calling your son Voldemort or Dobby Grin
Baby Dobby 😂

What about Beatrice OP? Ive only ever heard bellatrix in relation to HP and I’m sure people will always assume her parents were massive potter heads!

samthebordercollie · 22/06/2021 22:16

Noooo
Béatrice, Beatrixe , Bella or Belle but definitely not Bellatrix

Cam2020 · 22/06/2021 22:22

Sounds like a stripper to me.

On the subject of names coined by evil characters, I've seen a few suggestions of Regan (and actually know one). I always find that odd. Never any Gonerils though - go figure!

goddessofmischief · 22/06/2021 22:42

Love it and yes I'm aware of the association. Trixie would be a nice shortening. Better than Beatrix. We can't all live and die by Harry Potter.

goddessofmischief · 22/06/2021 22:45

Also better than Beatrice!

Lalliella · 23/06/2021 00:23

Seriously? Please no.

safariboot · 23/06/2021 00:45

Yeah, spoiled by Harry Potter. It'd be a good name otherwise.

AnotherSunrise · 23/06/2021 01:18

@thisplaceisweird

Absolutely do not call your child Bellatrix
This
Lizzie523 · 23/06/2021 01:32

God no

Try Luna instead.

dozydoo · 23/06/2021 02:42

I know a Beatrix Isabella, nn Trixy or trixybella, she a lovely little thing & her names really suit her! You could go with something like that?

MrsFezziwig · 23/06/2021 02:51

JK Rowling pretty much invented Bellatrix.

No she didn’t, it’s the name of a star.

The only Bellatrix I know is a German Shepherd so I certainly wouldn’t give a child that name.

Avoidance · 23/06/2021 12:36

I’m don’t like it, reminds me of bag o’ tricks in my accent Blush

Greendaisydays · 23/06/2021 13:05

What my friend called her dog as she’s a big Harry Potter fan

PerciphonePuma · 23/06/2021 13:25

Aviatrix?!?

i didnt' know it was HP but htought it sounded like a dog's name tbh.

user1493494961 · 23/06/2021 15:41

A stripper with a whip.

Bellatrixb · 27/01/2024 17:13

If you like the name then absolutely. My name is Bellatrix and yes it does sometimes get annoying with people making that connection but I love my name! I also love the meaning and it being a star.
