I love the sound of it. My only issues is Ms Lestrange Shock would the association still be made? Does it matter?

As a person's name, it's really only Bellatrix Lestrange. Sorry!

Beatrix or Alix if you like x names?

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 22/06/2021 18:28

No! Sounds like a prostitute.

Island67 · 22/06/2021 18:31

I think children would notice and possibly tease, if that’s what you’re worried about. Different year groups at school go through Harry Potter phases, and the popularity of HP doesn’t seem to be waning.

Shutupyoutart · 22/06/2021 18:35

My mind went straight to Bellatrix lestrange i think the connection is too strong and your daughters name would be the subject of relentless teasing. Sorry op it's a no from me.

reginafalange2020 · 22/06/2021 18:36

Christ - don't do it OP. Would you like to be called that? Honestly?

I'm a big HP fan by the way and I still wouldn't do that to my child

HyggeTygge · 22/06/2021 18:38

It's a band from the 90s/ early 2000s btw

BlowDryRat · 22/06/2021 18:38

No. Why would you want to name your daughter after a racist, sadistic, child killing mass murderer?

megletthesecond · 22/06/2021 18:40

No. As a pp said, Beatrice is nice with Trixie as a nn.

"Dobby" Grin

SpacePug · 22/06/2021 18:41

I don't think so, it would have the HP association forever. What about Beatrix?
Bea for short is pretty cute!

HyggeTygge · 22/06/2021 18:41

And Bellatrix the band were around years before the HP character appeared in the books!

MakkaPakkas · 22/06/2021 18:42

HP still wildly popular with my 10 year old & her friends so I think the association will still be made.

JustKeep · 22/06/2021 18:42

I’m sorry, I don’t think that’s ok.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/06/2021 18:42

The problem with choosing Bellatrix and the Harry Potter connection, is that the character is evil to the core. She isnt a misunderstood baddie turned goodie. Theres no point at all where one can warm to her.

Why have that association?

canary1 · 22/06/2021 18:42

Don’t do it! Everyone will think of LeStrange! What about Bella? Isabella? Arabella? Just not Harry Potter evil witch!

Starlitexpress · 22/06/2021 18:42

Good name for a black cat, otherwise, no.

IronTeeth · 22/06/2021 18:43

J M Barrie 'invented' Wendy for girls, but we still use it

In Britain, Wendy appeared as a masculine name in a parish record in 1615.[1][2] It was also used as a surname in Britain from at least the 17th century.[3] Its popularity in Britain as a feminine name is owed to the character Wendy Darling from the 1904 play Peter Pan and its 1911 novelisation Peter and Wendy by J. M. Barrie.[4][5][6] Its popularity reached a peak in the 1960s, and subsequently declined.[7] The name was inspired by young Margaret Henley, daughter of Barrie's poet friend W. E. Henley. With the common childhood difficulty pronouncing Rs, Margaret reportedly used to call him "my fwiendy-wendy".[8][9] (wiki)

I have a daughter named Bella, I really wanted Bellatrix but couldn’t do it to her! There’s always Trixabel/Trixibelle if you fancy!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/06/2021 18:43

@Starlitexpress

Good name for a black cat, otherwise, no.
Now considering whether to get another cat to use the name.

Could get a white one too and call it Narcissa.

IronTeeth · 22/06/2021 18:43

I love the name Bellatrix

FlowerPower3110 · 22/06/2021 18:44

No I would't call my child Bellatrix, it will always remind people of HP

I would go for Beatrix/Beatrice instead.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/06/2021 18:45

Could always call her Isabella Trixie Surname and use the nn Bellatrix.

Bluntness100 · 22/06/2021 18:47

You can’t call your kid that, she will get bullied mercilessly. I hope this is a wind up, what would you call a boy? Hagrid Or Severus?

YesToThis · 22/06/2021 18:48

There's Bellamy or Bellamia? Or (maybe also tough associations) I quite like Belladonna

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 22/06/2021 18:51

I had a cat called Bellatrix.

BertieBotts · 22/06/2021 18:52

Yes but Wendy was a good character, whereas Bellatrix was an evil one. So I don't think it's quite the same connotation.
