Me and my partner like Royce but the idea of it being shorted to Roy I'm not a fan on! Does anyone know. Royce and are they called roy? Or would you call someone Royce roy?

He will be called Roy.
Also Roycie, Boycie, Rolls, Baps and Rolly.

whatausername · 29/04/2021 20:36

Roly*, not Rolly

sadpapercourtesan · 29/04/2021 20:39

Arf, we got us a live one Grin

OP, you've posted a daft name in the MN baby names section and invited people to comment. You don't get to control HOW they comment, you just have to take the rough with the smooth. Struggling only makes it worse Flowers Cake Wine

Reinventinganna · 29/04/2021 20:45

I hope it does get shortened to Roy. It’s much nicer.

What’s your first called? Mercedes? Bentley? Rover?

One of my husband’s relatives was Royce. He’d have been very, very upset at being referred to as Roy. It rarely happened but when it did he declared very loudly that he’d never played bloody darts nor played in a brass band.
Im afraid Roy is very meat and tater pie.

sadpapercourtesan · 29/04/2021 21:09

Gosh, @LemonRoses he sounds perfectly frightful Shock

I didn’t say he was the nicest man on earth, but he was always upset if people got his name wrong.

So what do Royce's do? Morris dancing? Dressage? It doesn't sound particularly uppercrust to me? But what do I know 🤷🏻‍♀️
Timper · 29/04/2021 21:16

Absolutely beautiful name.

user1493494961 · 29/04/2021 21:21

It's a bit downmarket.

PassMeTheWotsits · 29/04/2021 21:28

Royce and peas

SummerInSun · 29/04/2021 21:33

Leaving aside the specific name, I thing parents who pick a name with an obvious nickname that they don't like tend to spend their child's childhood fighting a losing battle. Don't choose Christopher if you hate Chris; don't choose Patrick if you hate Pat, don't choose Benjamin of you hate Ben, etc

I've known a few cases like that, and ultimately the child decides what he wants to be called - if he always insists on the full name (and has the confidence to tell teachers, friends, etc that repeatedly) the long version will stick. If the child prefers the short version, no one outside family will ever call him that.

God yes my MIL is like this, my partner has a very common name which has at least 4 common nicknames, his sister calls him one NN, his friends another NN and me another NN eg Ben, Benji and benj if his name was Benjamin. If one of us accidentally calls him one of these in front of MIL she gets really angry Hmm
Mrbob · 29/04/2021 21:55

Why do people do this to their children?

thiswaythat · 29/04/2021 22:06

Grin I really really wanna know what your daughters name is

thiswaythat · 29/04/2021 22:10

Oh... I think it's Raeya. Which is no where near as bad as Royce

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/04/2021 22:11

Its also a lingerie brand.

gottakeeponmovin · 30/04/2021 08:27

He's the one who raped Rosalie in twighlight

Crankley · 30/04/2021 14:55

Ah, I remember your post about naming your DD Raeya or similar as thiswaythat said. You also had hysterics on that thread about people giving their opinions. You appear to be under the misapprehension that you can tell people what they can and cannot post about on here.

wildeverose · 05/05/2021 00:15

I imagine he will shorten it to Roy himself when he's older because he'd have spent his childhood being called rolls.

Marcis · 07/05/2021 03:14

Are the siblings Raeya, Rori & Rocco by chance?

I knew a Royce who changed his name to Roly by deed poll as he spent his whole childhood being called Rolls and it stuck. Take that as you will.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 07/05/2021 06:05

I do think it would get shortened to Roy, it just sort of comes naturally with it. I wouldn't worry about Rolls Royce as such, although it could be used for bullying if overweight at any point.

tinytemper66 · 07/05/2021 06:15

@Bittersweet12

HahahhahaanHhHh this is so funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I don't care if you like the name I like the name and so do my friends and family
No accounting for taste. Be prepared for teasing and nicknames.
babycheeseplant · 07/05/2021 06:28

If I like the name I will use the name disgusting

Disgusting is a terrible name for a child.
