Me and my partner like Royce but the idea of it being shorted to Roy I'm not a fan on! Does anyone know. Royce and are they called roy? Or would you call someone Royce roy?

More likely to have Roycie as a nickname going by the kids/teenagers I know

@Bittersweet12

Up there with calling you daughter Mercedes or Porsche(?) however they spell it these days.

No.

Dfg15 · 29/04/2021 12:33

Royce was my dad's name. He was 86 when he died and he was the only Royce i ever heard of. He mainly got called Royce, but also Roycie and Roy.

SylvanianFrenemies · 29/04/2021 12:34

I imagine that he would either change it or shorten it to Roy himself.

If you don't feel comfortable with 3457875 mentions of "Rolls Royce" every day pick something else.

Cornishmumofone · 29/04/2021 12:38

I know a 4 year old Royce. I did think of Rolls Royce the first time I heard the name... but don't tend to think of it now. I've never hear his name shortened to Roy. He's at quite an international preschool, so none of his classmates think his name is odd.

Who the HELL are you to tell me to pick something else. If I like the name I will use the name disgusting

Well you've wasted your time posting a thread about the frankly ridiculous name then, haven't you? It seems to have entertained you hugely though, judging by the amount of 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣's, (!) so that great. Bless.
FrancesFlute · 29/04/2021 12:51

Wow, OP, I think you need to leave the thread or have it removed. This is a discussion forum and it generates opinions. Many people have answered your specific Qs about shortening. Job done.
Just because you disagree with some comments about the name doesn't mean you need to react as you have.

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 29/04/2021 12:59

Nobody will call him Royce, except you. I gave my DS a beautiful name and I'm the only one that uses it. Everyone else calls him by a short version. I hate it. If you are prepared that he will be known as Roy by all but immediate family, go ahead.

JustDavesWife · 29/04/2021 13:11

Why not name the next kids Bentley or Mercedes!

Marmaladeagain · 29/04/2021 13:41

I prefer Mini, easier to park too.

Laaaayla · 29/04/2021 13:55

Think Roy is probably the least of your worries in terms of nicknames to be honest...

AuntieStella · 29/04/2021 14:10

Roy is definitely the least worst nn

One of the great strengths of the MN name board is that people will say what they think of a name, unfiltered by the manners that you would employ in RL (where I'd been saying 'what an interesting name')

If not Riy, then it'll be Rolls or Roly

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/04/2021 15:07

It will definitely get confused with Roy imo - there were nearly triple the number of Roy's born last year than Royce's, not to mention the many, many Roy's in the older generations (Roy was a top 100 name until the 70's and Royston was also well used). I'd find it annoying personally to always have have to say "Royce not Roy", but obviously it's up to you.

Pedalpushers · 29/04/2021 15:12

I want to know what world people on here live in where everyone goes out of their way to either mishear or make fun of someone's name. I've known people with some really unusual names in my life and noone has done anything other than take it at face value, but on here every thread descends into 'you can't name a kid Kat, she'll get called prat or shat or twatty kat bat'

Yellowfish2020 · 29/04/2021 15:53

Pleeeeeease tell us what you named your daughter that got everyone upset...

Hmm
Could be engine themed going by Rolls Royce

Whitney?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/04/2021 17:43

Don't know if anyone has suggested it yet, but how about Ross instead of Royce? - you wouldn't have to worry about the Roy thing then (and anecdotally I've met a couple of nice Ross's plus it has that cool surname vibe).

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/04/2021 17:52

I'm glad you like it, and your friends and family pretend to like it too.
None of you are having it as your name though are you?

partyatthepalace · 29/04/2021 17:57

Yep it will get shortened.

It’s a very strong flavour of a name, and if you ask people about a name, they will tell you what they think about it, along with perhaps answering the question you asked.

That’s because MN is a forum and this is a name board and that’s how these things work.

Unsubscribed · 29/04/2021 18:30

You could call a kid David and someone at school would decide to call him shithead

I'd go with Shithead rather Royce Grin

Iamstrugglingtopick · 29/04/2021 19:48

I wouldn’t even listen to opinions on here OP, no disrespect to anyone on MN but the names that are deemed nice on here and frankly names that would never ever be picked in real life and names that are popular/well liked in real life are deemed chavy, nicknamey or common 😂

If you love Royce use it. I personally would not shorten Royce to Roy

Iamstrugglingtopick · 29/04/2021 19:48

Are* frankly
