Me and my partner like Royce but the idea of it being shorted to Roy I'm not a fan on! Does anyone know. Royce and are they called roy? Or would you call someone Royce roy?

Omg no

rainbowthoughts · 29/04/2021 10:32

So what if people call a kid Rolls Royce? It's hardly going to scar someone for life. You could call a kid David and someone at school would decide to call him shithead, I really don't get the obsession with what kids at school might say.

Anyone who uses 'David might be known as shithead' as a defence for calling a child a name with an obvious and negative 'nickname' really don't hold anything worth listening to.

rainbowthoughts · 29/04/2021 10:32

Oh, and these things can scar a person for life.

TenThousandSpoons · 29/04/2021 10:34

Rolls Royce - especially if he’s chubby Sad

BadMudda · 29/04/2021 10:34

@Bittersweet12

HahahhahaanHhHh this is so funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I don't care if you like the name I like the name and so do my friends and family
So call him it then

Why even bother asking?

Yes he will get called all of the names listed above, including Roy.

Hope that helps

LarsErickssong · 29/04/2021 10:40

I think he will probably get called Roy, as well as Rolls

UCOinanOCG · 29/04/2021 11:19

I think what people are trying to say is that there are a number of nicknames he may get if named Royce. Roy, Rolls, Roycie, Boysie etc. You have to think about them all and if you still like the name accept he may be called any of these nicknames.

SeaTurtles92 · 29/04/2021 11:40

You sound really immature.

It will be shortened to Roy (I noticed you could not be a fan of Roy though) but dare someone say they don't like the name Royce. Pot kettle?

EvilEdna1 · 29/04/2021 11:45

I know one. Late 30s. No one calls him Roy.

Blackcountrychik · 29/04/2021 11:51

If you’re getting so worked up about people not liking the name now , imagine what it will be like for a child with that name at school !

Why do parents never think of the child they are naming ?!

It will probably be shortened to Roy which is almost as bad as a baby Keith 😂

Sallyandsam · 29/04/2021 11:57

I know a Royce, who is always called Rolls. I assumed his real name was Roland.

I only found out his name was Royce when I went to his wedding, after knowing him for nearly 10 years.

I don't care if someone likes the name or not, that's fine but I never asked for that. But thank you for saying I sound very immature that's much appreciated

I'm not getting worked up it's the fact I didn't ask if anyone liked the name or not

@CartTriesToDriveTheHorse

I don’t think it will be shortened to Roy but he will be called Rolls, Rolls Royce, Royston Vasey etc...

While you haven’t asked for opinions on the name I think it’s fair for people to say it’s an awful name. I would expect someone to tell me if I was about to drive my car off a cliff and wouldn’t snap at them that I only asked if the sea was up ahead.

But if I wanted opinions on the name I would say 'could I hVd opinions on this name please' I asked for opinions on my little girls name absolutely everyone hated it and I got some right back lash on here for it 'you can't call a kid that you shouldn't be a mother blah blah' some really horrible nasty mean people on here so worked up over a name. I then just ignored it because I liked the name and I couldn't care less if it was a liked name or not now. My point is regardless on people's opinion on the name, if I like it I will call my child it, I just asked if people thought it would be sorted. We all have different tastes styles ect, and that's okay, but the point of this post wasn't to get slandered for the name I like, just to ask if people thought it would be shortened

@Bittersweet12 I'm afraid once you have your baby people will comment on his name without you asking so you need to get used to being able to brush it off.

I'm a mother already so I know the score I really wouldn't be offended when my second child is here and anyone passes an opinion on whatever I decide to call him because it's the name I liked and picked. I haven't even picked this name or said it's one I'm using I just said I liked it and asked if anyone thought it would be shortened but instead I've got the opposite, so much for a helpful site more like a site of drag people down, judge them, and be horrible to them because they like a name you don't

OP posts:
fuckyouRW · 29/04/2021 12:18

I don't know any Royce's. Probably a good reason for that.

BettysCardigan · 29/04/2021 12:19

The thing about naming a person is that, when you're pregnant, you sort of think you'll be in charge of how their name is used.

And you're so not. Everyone will call him whatever they want, basically. I call my own kids all manner of shit: Pie Face, PickleChops, SmellyPants, for example Grin

Roy is the most obvious shortening for Royce, if you name him that then you need to make your peace with him being Roy now.

SteveArnottsCodeine · 29/04/2021 12:20

Please, please don’t.

Bittersweet12 · 29/04/2021 12:23

@SteveArnottsCodeine

Please, please don’t.
See what's the need in that. I honestly don't get what runs through peoples minds on here, just because it's a name you don't like doesn't mean I'm not aloud to like it or should be pleaded with to not name my child it? I might not like the name you or yours children have but if it's something you like then cool.

You are being far too sensitive. Nobody is doing any of this because they said Royce is a horrid name with a bunch of nicknames.

Warmduscher · 29/04/2021 12:27

I asked for opinions on my little girls name absolutely everyone hated it and I got some right back lash on here for it 'you can't call a kid that you shouldn't be a mother blah blah'

Someone actually posted, “You shouldn’t be a mother”? I hope you reported that comment and it got deleted.

Having said that, if I’d got that kind of response to my first child’s name I wouldn’t be coming back for more with my second Grin

BettysCardigan · 29/04/2021 12:28

I don't think it's for anyone else to say if the OP is being 'too' sensitive Confused
