Ximena or Xiomara ?

Which one do you prefer for a girl? And no, we don't really mind pronunciation issues or the fact people won't be able to say them. If people can learn to say Schwarzenegger I'm sure they can say either of these names.

Xiomara is pronounced like see-oh-mara
Ximena is he-meh-nah

It would be an average British surname with easy pronunciation. I am Colombian and DH is British and we live in the UK.

Neither, sorry

SionnachGlic · 06/04/2021 01:14

Sorry...but I wouldn't choose either. But obvs go for it if you love them.

3girlsmama · 06/04/2021 01:16

Xiomara sounds pretty. It's lovely to chose a name that reflects your culture.

Ineedaneasteregg · 06/04/2021 01:22

I like both of them, Ximena is my favorite.
But they are both going to be difficult in the UK.

AlexaShutUp · 06/04/2021 01:24

I prefer Ximena, but that might be because I know a delightful little girl of that name.

AnotherSunrise · 06/04/2021 01:25

Neither

pallisers · 06/04/2021 01:25

I knew a wonderful Xiomara so that is my vote. no one had a problem pronouncing her name.

AlexaShutUp · 06/04/2021 01:25

BTW, I had never come across the name before meeting the little Ximena who lives near us. I learnt to pronounce it correctly, and others will too.Wink

HerRoyalNotness · 06/04/2021 01:30

Both are really pretty. Overall I prefer Xiomara

Ginandplatonic · 06/04/2021 01:30

Xiomara probably has the most intuitive pronunciation for an English speaker. But I’m sure people could cope with either. Name problems are often massively exaggerated on here I think.

CrunchyNutcase · 06/04/2021 01:32

I prefer Ximena but like both of them.

OneKeyAtATime · 06/04/2021 01:32

I have never come across these names. Is the X pronounced x,h, v or like a rolled r?

OneKeyAtATime · 06/04/2021 01:34

Sorry! I have just re read your post and you had covered it. On this basis Xiomara as the other one would get mispronounced more often I think.

OneKeyAtATime · 06/04/2021 01:36

Sorry -just re-read your post. On this basis Xiomara as the other one would get mispronounced more often I think.

PurpleRainDancer · 06/04/2021 01:39

Both awful

RefuseTheLies · 06/04/2021 01:46

Xiomara is lovely!

closetclosetcloset · 06/04/2021 01:56

If your comment is "neither" or any other negative remark please feel free to ignore this post and keep scrolling. I'm not looking for opinions on them, it's a simple this or that question.

Happycat1212 · 06/04/2021 02:02

Of the two I would say Ximena

ShaneTheThird · 06/04/2021 02:04

Xiomara is beautiful and i met a lovely one once. Ignore the horrible xenophobic posters calling them awful simply because they aren't british names.

olderthanyouthink · 06/04/2021 02:05

Ooohhhhhh that's the name of the mum in Jane the Virgin! Xiomara! I'd never seen it written down but I just put the two together Smile I like that one

SleepingStandingUp · 06/04/2021 02:06

Xiomara is pronounced like see-oh-mara
Ximena is he-meh-nah

On this basis I like Xiomara most, I don't like the sound of the other but can't quite articulate what it is about it.

Also likely mispronunciation is Zee oh mara or Zi oh mara which isn't terribly different to the correct pronunciation but
Zi meh nah Vs He meh nah is much more different

Synchrony · 06/04/2021 02:10

I like Xiomara

Emeraldshamrock · 06/04/2021 02:10

Xiomara is popular or will become popular from the hilarious series "Jane the virgin".
I like it with your background it's lovely.

DalPalak · 06/04/2021 04:14

I love that you're choosing a name from your culture, and I love your attitude. You're right -- people may not get them right on the first go but they will learn to say them.

I prefer Ximena, by the way, though both are pretty.

LudoTrouble · 06/04/2021 04:55

I like Xiomara, partly because of Jane the Virgin (she's nicknamed Xio) and partly because you could also call her Mara for short, which is lovely.
