Harris, Jenson or Freddie?

sarah13xx · 23/03/2021 16:11

These are our favourite names so far. Got to the stage I don’t think I’ll ever decide on one, keep going round in circles with it, please help! 🙈
Below are the names and their rank on the 2020 list in Scotland which just came out today:

6 Harris
23 Freddie
193 Jenson

Thoughts?

Harris is a surname and no one is bother coopting to a first.

Freddie is fine, it's one of those I'd go oh right, sweet, and then forget if she'd called him Freddie or Alfie etc.

Jenson is awesome. It doesn't need a nickname either

Harris was originally my favourite because it’s a Scottish place name and so is my girl’s name (if I have one) but it’s become really popular now which puts me off. I kind of feel the same way about Freddie and forget what a lot of people have called their kids when it’s a name like that 😕 Jenson seemed to get a lot of hate on here on the posts I’ve seen but I’m glad you like it, think it would be quite unusual in Scotland, we don’t know any at all

I have three boys names that would be considered "try hard" on here, Xavier is getting increasingly acceptable but the other two Def not so I might not be the safest voice of reason 😂😂. My favourite safe name is Tobias

Harris

Haha I do think it’s always better to take a bit of a risk though and be a bit unusual than everyone having the same top 10 names 🤷🏼‍♀️

I really like Jenson

I'm not keen on Harris and Freddie is really popular now

Love Harris!

Kanaloa · 23/03/2021 16:53

I think Harris and Jenson are both lovely. I really don’t like Freddie. Objectively I know there’s nothing wrong with it at all but I just dislike it. Where I like the ‘r’ is pronounced really softly it doesn’t have a nice sound.

Kanaloa · 23/03/2021 16:54

Oh, but out of Harris and Jenson I couldn’t choose a particular favourite, both are lovely.

Yip this is my dilemma 😂 Go for the popular choice, choose Harris and risk him being in a class with another Harris at school or be quite unique (for Scotland anyway) and go for Jenson

@elliemara

Love Harris!
It was always my number 1 and goes nice with my girl choice. Just really don’t want him to be one of many Harris’ at school 😩

None are my taste, sorry (as I'm not generally keen on surnames or nn's as given names) - but out of the 3 I'd probably choose Freddie. Harris is possibly a bit too close to Arris - the rude cockney slang word for me , and Jenson is clearly "John's son" to me (but maybe that's because I haven't met many?).

user1493494961 · 23/03/2021 18:58

Freddie's OK, I think Jenson's a bit downmarket.

Notthisnotthat · 23/03/2021 19:03

I love the name Harris (I'm in Scotland), wouldn't use Freddie as it's a bit wet, Jenson has me singing "meet George Jetson" from an old cartoon from the 80s, which makes me smile.

Yeah I think out of them Freddie would be third favourite and not 100% sold on it, it’s just ‘nice’. I really love Harris and would definitely use it if it just wasn’t so popular 😭 I like Jenson because it’s definitely unique (here anyway, don’t think it is in England)

Are you in England? This is the only thing holding me back from using Jenson but it’s so rare here (in Scotland) that I don’t know if it can have that reputation without being more common 🙈

partyatthepalace · 23/03/2021 22:23

Freddie is sweet but yes - millions of them

Harris is ok- not v distinguished and will date

Jenson is just grim - downmarket and will be the equivalent of Ryan or Taylor in 5-10 years - however much I liked the name, I wouldn’t use it for that reason.

iluvpickles · 23/03/2021 22:40

I love Harris it's a lovely name. It is popular in Scotland but if u love it go for it!

NativityDreaming · 23/03/2021 22:47

I dislike Jenson very much. It gas bad connotations to me here in Wales. It is commonly used.

Harris is a classier choice. Freddie is a nickname.

Firebird83 · 23/03/2021 22:49

Harris. Not Jenson, it’s definitely downmarket.

PandaFluff · 24/03/2021 10:44

I'd discount Freddie as it doesn't sound like you are that keen on it.

Then toss a coin between Harris and Jenson and see how you feel about the outcome.

It sounds like it might be worth checking out other names too just in case there's one that stands out to you.

Flymetothestars · 24/03/2021 11:03

Could you send a link to the Scotland charts that came out yesterday, interested to see

Love all 3 names.
Jenson a bit different so that gets my vote but honestly love all 3. Harris is cool

EvilOnion · 24/03/2021 11:08

I'm in Scotland.

I know 3 Jenson's - all under 8!

sarahc336 · 24/03/2021 11:21

I love Harris and also jenson bug out of the two I'd say Harris x
