Harris, Jenson or Freddie?

sarah13xx · 23/03/2021 16:11

These are our favourite names so far. Got to the stage I don’t think I’ll ever decide on one, keep going round in circles with it, please help! 🙈
Below are the names and their rank on the 2020 list in Scotland which just came out today:

6 Harris
23 Freddie
193 Jenson

Thoughts?

I really like Jensen.

@Flymetothestars

Could you send a link to the Scotland charts that came out yesterday, interested to see

Love all 3 names.
Jenson a bit different so that gets my vote but honestly love all 3. Harris is cool

@EvilOnion

I'm in Scotland.

I know 3 Jenson's - all under 8!

Really? It says there were 3 in my local authority born in 2020 but I’m yet to meet one and im a teacher! There’s been none in any schools I’ve taught in x

Yes, one of the younger siblings at nursery (he'll be about 4 now) - one a year above at school (he must be 8/9) and another who we don't know very well but was at swimming lessons before Covid so assuming he's about 6.

HeadlessGummyBears · 24/03/2021 13:14

I like Freddie but as a nickname for Frederick or Alfred.

soontobeamama · 24/03/2021 16:34

Harris is a lovely name, although becoming very popular. Freddie is very common now, cute as a child name, but not sure as they get older? I'm not so keen on Jenson at all, sorry.

ShipOfTheseus · 24/03/2021 16:36

Harris is great.
Freddie is OK as short for Frederick.
Jenson is cringey naff.

Yeah have wondered that about Freddie. I think it’s probably third anyway. It’s soo hard, Harris is a lovely name though but really wanted to avoid him being in a class with other kids with the same name which could easily happen 🙄

A family member is called Haris (1 r) I love it.

littlemisslozza · 24/03/2021 17:47

I have a teenage Freddie, short for Frederick (which he hates!). Not babyish at all and we don't know many others unless they are all little ones perhaps. I also know a couple of younger men who go by Freddie and Fred.

Not a fan of Harris, but I don't like surname type names. Jenson is ok but has a girly feel 'jen' to me.

That’s lovely, I do like that Freddie seems to be more unusual where I stay, it doesn’t feature at all on the short list for my council area whereas the other two do. I also don’t know any of school age anyway. That’s slightly putting me off Jenson knowing the nickname is Jens 😕 just so hard!!

Ohh that’s nice too! Had thought about it 🤔 I love the name Ari and I’d kinda thought potential rather than being called Harry his nickname could be Ari

Ari is a lovely nickname x

Does it really matter if there's another Harris in his class? I have THE most common girls' name of the 80s. There was always at least one other girl in my name in every class, sometimes two or three.

You know what? It is still a nice name. It is a classic name. I would far rather have a nice name shared by other people than a not-so-nice name that nobody else has.

Can you make peace with the fact that he might meet another Harris or Freddie once in a while? In the Internet age, there are advantages to having a degree of anonymity anyway.

Sittinonthesand · 25/03/2021 06:05

Jenson is a naughty boy name imo. Harris is a dog name. Freddie is nice but they’d need a more formal version to fall back on, it’s not very serious sounding on cvs.

zigaziga · 25/03/2021 06:10

Anything but Jenson for me ...

Go with Harris if it’s always been your favourite.

Skyla2005 · 25/03/2021 06:11

Love jenson

spaceghetto · 25/03/2021 06:21

@Sittinonthesand oh give over! I've never understood how you can have "naughty" names.

Roselilly36 · 25/03/2021 06:24

Out of the three I much prefer Jenson, I would agree with PP loads of Freddie’s, not keen on Harris.

Brownteddybear · 25/03/2021 06:44

Anything but Jenson! Sounds like the dodgy caretaker in Scooby Doo who would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids.

Harris is awful and slang for arse.

Yeah I know what you mean, it’s definitely more important to have a nice name. The only reason it bothers me so much is because I’m a teacher so every year I have kids who need to be called Andrew M and Andrew K for example, just feel like it takes away a bit of their identity and even the other kids call them it as if that’s their name 😕 wouldn’t be the end of the world though. At my school I’ve only had one Harris ever but I think it’s much more common for babies now than it was x

Everyone seems to love or hate Jenson, there’s no in between 🙈 I wish more people said they liked it

Ignore what a bunch of randomers say and use it if you love it!

My eldest has a name that suddenly exploded when he was born so despite going for a nice but not overused name he ended up one of 3 in his class!

He was "Name A" all through nursery and primary but he honestly didn't seem to care and it certainly never took away his identity in any way. Now he's at secondary it doesn't matter at all because they've all been mixed up with loads of other kids.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 08:37

I love Harris! But it does look popular in Scotland. I used to live in Scotland but am out of touch now, so didn't realise it was so popular.

I think I'd go with Jenson. It is not downmarket to me at all. I live in SE England now and know one. If anything, I'd think you maybe were a big F1 fan, but that isn't bad. Jenson Button is very swoonsome to me and quite upmarket.

Freddie is fine, but it's too nicknamey for me. It is everywhere here, or was a few years ago. May be different in Scotland, but it is still my least favourite.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 08:41

Oh and my dd's name is number 60ish and think it was even lower when we named her and she has another one in her year. She gets Sarah K (for example). Doesn't bother me, but she has started correcting people now. "You can just call me Sarah".

DS name is outside the top 500 and there is another one in our small town Grin. So I wouldn't preempt the whole "what if there's another one in his class" thing.

Also once attended a baby group with two Odins. Their mums were like Hmm😬.
