Don’t think we’ll use it for this baby but just brainstorming? What do you think of Dove?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Lonelycrab · 15/03/2021 14:23

It works well if you use Harmonica as a middle nameWink

VodselForDinner · 15/03/2021 14:24

Coo-l

Knitterbabe · 15/03/2021 14:29

Better than Wren, but I’m not keen.
‘Duv’ is the likely pronunciation

RusholmeRuffian · 15/03/2021 15:08

Will definitely get called Div by kids at school

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/03/2021 21:08

I’ve been teaching for sixteen years and have heard every insult going but I haven’t heard anyone use ‘div’ since my own schooldays!

Colomba / Columba mean ‘dove’, OP. With a different pronunciation, ‘dove’ means ‘where’ in Italian.

WildCherryBlossom · 28/04/2021 10:41

Jemima also means dove

Edenember · 28/04/2021 14:10

I don’t like it, but it’s not necessarily the avian thing because I do like Wren. Fine as a middle, I’d think twice about it as a first name though (I wouldn’t use Wren as a first name either).

sarah13xx · 28/04/2021 15:47

It’s better as a middle name I think. It’s Katy Perry’s baby’s middle name

notalwaysalondoner · 28/04/2021 16:19

I think it's fine, actually - it's not THAT associated with soap, much more with the bird. I like it just as much as most other more modern 'nature' names - Wren, River, Wolf, Sage etc.

Adventing · 28/04/2021 16:34

I quite like it but it may be a hard name to pull off and the soap connection seems quite strong. Jemima means Dove too as does Jonah

annaboo2 · 28/04/2021 17:32

Soaps. Sorry. It would decent as a middle name.

For me it-s equally the brand name and the bird but most of all RHOBH's Teddi Smile

Is it more common in the US?

catsareme14 · 28/04/2021 17:44

I think it's really pretty

Maggiesfarm · 28/04/2021 17:50

Soap.

Dettol is not a bad name, or Lifebuoy.

partyatthepalace · 28/04/2021 18:56

Deodorant
Also just a bit soppy (and soapy Grin)
Paloma is nice though

Thedogscollar · 30/04/2021 18:08

Ridiculous and cruel spring to mind.

KeflavikAirport · 01/05/2021 18:44

Dov is a Jewish boy’s name, so it’s a no from me. Colombe is a pretty French girl name that means dove.

EssentialHummus · 01/05/2021 18:58

Dov is a Hebrew boy’s name that means bear, if that’s any use?

Romemarie · 02/05/2021 17:59

I really like it. But I think I’d use it as a middle name.

diamondslushiex · 22/07/2025 20:51

I actually love Dove. I hope you went for it if you liked it that much! X

MovingBird123 · 23/07/2025 11:56

A bit hippy, but not wild. I think it could work for a girl.

Jonah means dove, or yona (yoh-NAH).

Davina with quirky nickname Dove?

Edit: whoops, didn't realise this was such an old thread! Also interested in whether you went for it...

KayEmAy · 23/07/2025 19:00

I love this name! I think Dove is awesome

I think no. I think of the sound of it - duv. It's not a great name for an adult human even as a middle name.
