Just curious because i personally think it's a pretty and cute name but no one seems to like it.

Camryn
Would be 2 syllables pronounced Kam-rin
Is that actually what you want? Confused
It's not a name

Cameron has 3 syllables

FuriousWithTheNHS · 11/02/2021 13:00

It's the phonetic American version of Cameron when said in certain regional American accents. That's why it's silly.

It's important to note that even spelled as Cameron some Americans would still pronounce it Camryn, because that's just how they speak.

So if I wanted to spell Emily as Emurleh or Katie as Kerteh because that's how people from Manchester or Yorkshire might say it, you can start to see why it's a stupid idea.

endlesssnow · 11/02/2021 13:06

I haven't heard of it but I would wonder if it was just Cameron misspelled.
It a shame if it is an actual name in its own right.

gratitutesmynewthing · 11/02/2021 13:13

Well the yn ending the masculine in welsh for seems make. So I don't know, I don't think it makes it more feminine. It's really a boys name, apart from the actress.

Cammie instead , not my cup of tea, but maybe Caitlin is nice and similar.

SeasonFinale · 11/02/2021 13:15

Camryn is very Real Housewives of [insert name of American town].

There is one on Dallas and a baby one in Potomac.

alwayslemons · 11/02/2021 13:19

@SoupDragon

the most famous Cameron is arguably Cameron Diaz so it really could go either way.

One famous female doesn't mean it could go either way 😂😂

Well, it means it's a name in common usage for both males and females. It's not a girls name OR a boys name - it's a surname - but as a first name I have always associated it with girls because of Cameron Diaz. So yes... it can go either way. It is not simply a boys name.
CodenameVillanelle · 11/02/2021 13:20

Because it's spelt stupidly
Spell it cameron and give it to a boy and it's fine.

ReluctantHomeschooler · 11/02/2021 13:25

When I was in the OC I met a couple of people with DDs called ‘Londyn’. Named after the city of ‘London’, apparently 🙄.

London = Londyn
Cameron = Camryn.

Not keen, sorry.

GlacindaTheTroll · 11/02/2021 13:27

Channelling 'Rivals' - a book where the main female character is called Cameron - there's also a character called Daysee who is asked why she spells her name that ridiculous way. Her answer 'because it shows up better in the (television) credits'

Successful actors may well adapt names for the same reason, but that does not make their variant a good choice elsewhere

Kenworthington · 11/02/2021 13:29

Because it’s not a name???

BaggoMcoys · 11/02/2021 13:31

I wouldn't be sure whether to pronounce it Cameron or Cam-rim. It looks like a misspelling to me. It's not awful, but isn't a name I've seen before now.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 11/02/2021 13:33

Because it looks, reads and sounds stupid.

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2021 13:35

All names were just made up words at some stage. If you really like it, use it.

JustanotherTuesday · 11/02/2021 13:36

I actually like it for a girl but I do like a lot of American unisex names. I also like Camden, Aspen and Peyton.

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/02/2021 14:32

Naff spelling of a boy's name.
Makes me think of CAMRA.

EarlGreywithLemon · 11/02/2021 14:58

I like it. I know a Camryn (shortened to Cammie). Never saw anyone struggling with her name.

Schmoozer · 11/02/2021 15:02

Yeuk

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/02/2021 15:25

@BoneAppleTeaa

I would probably still use the name Octavia, as it has history of being an actual Latin girls name.
Entirely off topic, but my mum had a friend whose granddaughter was the tenth grandchild, so was called Decima.
HasaDigaEebowai · 11/02/2021 15:32

haven't you ever heard of Camryn Manheim

Yes but she made up that name. Her name is Debra.

Chilldonaldchill · 11/02/2021 15:41

I like Cameron for a boy.
Camryn looks like the name of a car or something. It sounds really unpleasant. Sorry.

caringcarer · 11/02/2021 15:59

For a girl I would prefer Carolyn. If it means crooked nose why would you want to pick that?

Dailyhandtowelwash · 11/02/2021 18:51

Out of curiosity I googled 'Camryn' and there seem to be quite a lot of them in States. Remarkably successful at sports in general.

Iwantacookie · 11/02/2021 18:58

I love it. Cameron is so normal but camryn makes it unique.
Ide always give my dc a weird spelling if they had a traditional name.

micc · 11/02/2021 19:53

I just dont understand the need to change the spelling of names? It doesnt make the name more individual as it's just Cameron, which is a nice name.

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 19:55

Because it’s a stupid name and makes the baby/parents look thick.
