Just curious because i personally think it's a pretty and cute name but no one seems to like it.

I've not heard it before.
I would expect a lifetime of corrected people/having it spelt wrong/accepting that people with think its Cameron.
My DD has a (fairly common) name that is often mis-spelt and often has to correct it,

LalalalalalaLand123 · 11/02/2021 10:19

Because it's not a real name.

Heyha · 11/02/2021 10:21

I've seen a few spellings of Cameron before now, but never that one.

Tamlyn is a nice, real name that sounds similar?

SlopesOff · 11/02/2021 10:29

It sounds like something I would use to take photos.

One of those made up names that seem very wrong, like Jayden.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 11/02/2021 10:47

It's just really naff

HideTanner · 11/02/2021 10:52

Reminds me of this meme.

If I were a Camryn I'd definitely change the spelling to Cameron as soon as I could lift a crayon in protest.

Sounds like an engine part.

IsadoraQuagmire · 11/02/2021 11:05

All the people who haven't heard of the name before, haven't you ever heard of Camryn Manheim? I've seen her in dozens of films and tv shows. She is the only Camryn I've ever heard of though.

SaltyTootsieToes · 11/02/2021 11:06

Well OP, you’ve had your answers.

Cameron - lovely

Camryn - lots and lots of reasons why not.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2021 11:08

Clearly not.
Dailyhandtowelwash · 11/02/2021 11:13

I thought of Camryn Manheim immediately too, although like you I've never heard of any others.

I don't hate it - it's just another 'new' name that wouldn't occur to me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/02/2021 11:19

Unfortunately Camryn looks misspelt/invented and also sounds very American/Celeb- like to me (likely fine if you are in the US, but could appear downmarket in the UK). Having said all that, there are far worse names used and I can't see that it's teaseable, so if you love it OP, use it.

ChelseaCat · 11/02/2021 11:21

Because it’s awful

FluffyHippo · 11/02/2021 11:26

Because it looks shit written down. Because it sounds shit spoken aloud. Because it's essentially a made-up nonsense.

SendMeHome · 11/02/2021 11:27

I know of two in the US, both little girls.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 11/02/2021 11:31

It’s like people spelling Archie like Archy really grates my nerves

CokeAndPepsi · 11/02/2021 11:38

Because it’s a novelty spelling. Nobody likes novelty spellings except the parents who use them. Not even the kids much of the time.

alwayslemons · 11/02/2021 11:58

It's obviously subjective and you should call your baby whatever you want, but personally I don't like names that either sound made up (e.g. Pax), or are taken from existing names but deliberately spelled in a kooky/modern way e.g. "Jaxon" instead of Jackson, "Jorja" instead of Georgia etc.

I'm sure they're intended to be unique, but to my eyes they look like the choice of a 13 year old who thinks they're being really edgy and rebellious and cool. We used to spell things that way in text messages as kids, initially to save on the character count n then coz we thort it wos kewl lol. Remember that character from Twilight who named her daughter after an amalgamation of both grandmothers' names - so Renee and Esme became Renesme? Same vibe. Looks juvenile and a bit cringey.

If you want your child to have a unique name (which I do understand, I was given a very traditional name and I've always hated it) there are plenty of beautiful and uncommon names out there. But also remember that whatever you choose there will always be some people who don't like it - and it's your baby, not theirs!

TinyCake · 11/02/2021 12:01

I think it sounds weird when I say it in my accent like I mispronounced Cameron.

Tamsyn is nice though

alwayslemons · 11/02/2021 12:06

@SoupDragon

and it's not very feminine

That will be because Cameron is a boy's name.

Well technically it's a surname, so it's not actually a boys or a girls name. I think it's more popular among boys than girls, but the most famous Cameron is arguably Cameron Diaz so it really could go either way.

I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan of surnames as first names either. They sound very 1990's American suburbia to my ears. But each to their own and all that.

Cornishmumofone · 11/02/2021 12:10

I agree with @TinyCake Tamsyn is a lovely alternative

SoupDragon · 11/02/2021 12:29

One famous female doesn't mean it could go either way 😂😂

He real name is Debra Frances Manheim
Luckyelephant1 · 11/02/2021 12:39

I love the name Cameron but Camryn looks like you're trying to make it look cooler but failing miserably. What's wrong with Cameron?

StopGo · 11/02/2021 12:49

Why would you name a child Crooked Nose?
