Love names like Theo, Leo, Tristan, Dylan, Valentine and Ewan. The proper soft sounding masc names. What are your favourite soft masc names.

The butch lesbians I know are called Sue, Heather and Val.

I didn’t know it was a whole sub category of names Hmm

TinyCake · 08/02/2021 14:31

Leo means Lion, not sure it screams soft to me.
Still not sure what you mean to be honest. Have you got any more examples?

TinyCake · 08/02/2021 14:33

Ooh think I sort of get it
Is Sacha one?

NoProblem123 · 08/02/2021 14:34

Niall - like the river. Irish.

According to this thread my son has a soft boi name and I have a butch lesbian one. 😐

Think I may have already used up all my fucks for today and I'm fairly sure reading that totally vacuous Guardian article has lowered my IQ by a fair few points. Time to go...

Holyforkingshirtball · 08/02/2021 15:27

Rowan?

SlopesOff · 08/02/2021 15:27

The only time I came across 'boi' it was used by a complete knob who thinks he is a film producer so a previous post is correct.

Anyway to answer the question:
Laurence, I have found that Laurence people are gentle and polite, but Lawrence people are pushy, selfish and generally unpleasant. Maybe it is the w.

I’ve tried on all my devices and at no point does ‘boy’ autocorrect on any of them to ‘boi.’ If I type in ‘boi‘ though, my iPad helpfully finishes off the word to ‘boil.’ Up north, ‘soft lad’ is definitely not something to aspire to. Nor is soft boiled.

BigPaperBag · 08/02/2021 15:39

Why would you deliberately set out to give your son a girlie name?

Dons hard hat and slopes off whistling innocently.

viques · 08/02/2021 15:42

Vivian, Leslie, Evelyn, Francis, Robin.

LucasLeesEyebrows · 08/02/2021 15:49

Louis? Makes me think of Louis Walsh, who is definitely soft as shite

PrimeraVez · 08/02/2021 15:53

Weirdly I think I understand what you mean. And I think DS2’s name, Caspar, falls into this category.

PolarnOPirate · 08/02/2021 15:57

Gus - Angus, fergus always seem quite soft to me
Gregory? It’s funny because I can see all these being big burly teddy bears too though. So is it that sort of soft we’re looking for, or weedy wimpy soft? 😄 this game is just crazy, a name doesn’t make a personality.

SlopesOff · 08/02/2021 15:57

If you often use a spelling when you type, doesn't the phone correct it to that one? Therefore giving you the one you meant to use (even if you intended to use it anyway and are making excuses)?

Well I know what I mean by that, doubt anyone else will.

HolyMusicalBman · 08/02/2021 16:06

Thanks for those that answered. I'm up North and know soft lad and whatnot. I simply wanted some softer sounding names, like given Caspar, Fergus, Magnus etc. I wasn't meaning a soft personality, I simply wanted some names that weren't as masc and 'ooh I'm a big man' like Axel and Ryker

I actually know exactly what you mean, I think I am naturally drawn to ‘softer’ sounding names. Names like Noah, Theo, Arlo, Gabriel, basically vowel heavy names. Doesn’t mean the name holder is soft, I imagine the people with these type of names to grow up to be very handsome and kind! They’re more romantic to me than the ‘stronger’ sounding names. Don’t ask me why!

Thank you. This is exactly what I wanted! Some vowel heavy names that give off a softer sound than names like Ryker etc.

@CorianderBee

Soft boi means a feminine man name. Ffs it's not hard to figure out.
Ffs yourself - I thought it was a typo and couldn't understand the significance.
