What names do you consider “twee”?

Arabella,
Annabelle,
Beatrice,
Florence.

For me, it’s overly cutesy pairs of names - Aurora with Primrose / Rose etc.

Also when a baby is given a diminutive of a name instead of the name itself - Lottie instead of Charlotte, Hattie instead of Harriet, Teddy instead of Edward etc. It’s fine to use the nicknames but the child should be registered under a proper name imo or it’s really twee and a sign the parents are only considering the baby and not the adult they will grow into.

Elsie is twee but Sophie isn’t.

What does twee even mean? I have only ever see it on here when people describe a name, never seen or heard it anywhere else? Is it just like a mn put down or something?

I think double barrelled names where both names are a shortened form or "unusual" sound a bit twee - things like Daisy-May, Tilly-Star, Alfie-Jay, Archie-Jack that kind of thing.

Ok for a toddler, but a little twee for an older child or adult.

I don't think any of those names are twee on their own, it's the hyphen.

We met a health care professional called Poppy the other day. It was hard taking a grown woman called Poppy seriously.

I had to look up twee. It said something about overly quaint, pretty and sentimental.

I agree with Maisie and pretty much anything with Bella in it!

For boys, for me, it would be anything "cheeky chappy"ish. Especially shortened names on the BC which are not traditionally full names.

All of this said, I know people with all of these names and don't bat an eyelid or think they're terrible or anything. I just wouldn't use the names myself.

Anything that ends in an e sound for me too.

Agree that cute nicknames for toddlers sound silly on adults potentially. Better to have Elizabeth or Mathilda on ones birth certificate. The little one can be called Betty or Tilly or whatever, but then has lots of options when she grows up.

Very similar to what @IamnotwhouthinkIam said: diminutives, lots of names with -ie, -y or -ee endings, but not more cosmopolitan French names like Sylvie (I do however find Amelie quite twee), or Greek origin names like Xanthe, Zoe or Daphne. Also a few exceptions like Nancy, Josie and Holly, which I feel have a bit more energy to them - to me part of the ‘twee’ feel is being a bit weak and insipid.

Also obviously frilly, princessy names - things like Arabella, Arianna, Aurora... There are lots of girls at local toddler groups with vowel-heavy, slightly made-up sounding names ending in -ana or -ella (Caliana, Ariella) - all of those.

Also find Arlo and Milo quite twee for some reason.

SiSi (cee-cee) and MiMi. These seem to be popular nicknames for Sienna and Mila/Mia/Amelia. They are the height of twee.
