Wendy

Maisie

SendHelp30 · 18/01/2021 23:35

@Ohalrightthen on the same note as Maisie-May, DD was once in a dance class with a Lexie-Lou. It made my toes curl. The brother was Arley-Jay. I thought Harley was bad until I came across Arley!!

There is a huge variety of names listed on this thread. I too am not entirely sure what 'twee' means as it seems to be different for everyone. I suppose it is sort of overly sweet? Which is odd as some of the names on this thread i'd consider as strong and dignified names, not at all cutesy: Emma, Mary, June, Nell, Beatrice, Tabitha, Matilda (to name a few just from the first page!) For what it's worth, my daughter's name is in this list and I think it is gorgeous and very strong a classy. I'd pick it all over again even after seeing someone on this thread calling it twee, as I adore it!

Even some of the names that I agree are very sweet, I still think are lovely.

So the moral of the story, in my opinion: everyone likes different things, everyone has different opinions. You can't please everyone! So just choose whatever you love!

To some people a name might be twee but i bet you'd HATE their baby name choices too. So who cares what anyone else thinks 🤷🏽‍♀️

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 19/01/2021 05:25

Gosh, even my own boring dated name is on here listed as twee! 😂

VanillaAndOrange · 19/01/2021 23:44

I'm not sure if these are ever given as full names, but my first thought was repetitive sounds like Mimi, Jojo etc. And Lac(e)y - I'm waiting for my first sighting of a baby called Frill(e)y!

For a boy - I know some people here like them, but I find Robin and Toby a bit "cutesy".

MrsWhistledown · 19/01/2021 23:48

Probably the same as everyone else! Names like:

Evie
Poppy

Archie
Alfie
Teddy

FinallyMrsE · 19/01/2021 23:56

Mine and both my daughters names are on here (more than once) but who cares? I like their names, they suit them and nobody has ever thought I was talking about my pet bunny when I’ve mentioned their names 😉

... Okay
Onceuponatimethen · 20/01/2021 15:29

@FinallyMrsE no one ever tells you these thoughts in RL

PattyPan · 20/01/2021 16:28

Agreed. Someone I know recently had a baby called Finley, and I didn’t say ‘that is the most twee name ever’ (although I do think that, and cringe a little involuntarily whenever I hear it), I just said congratulations and what a lovely baby!

Seriously? This is the Baby Names forum. It's set up to ask for and receive feedback on Baby Names. If you can't handle a mild critique of your child's name then I suggest you don't hang out here.
SionnachRua · 20/01/2021 16:37

And I stand by my opinion that Nell is one of the most godawful twee names around. Keep it for elephants, no one else Grin

OwlWearingGlasses · 20/01/2021 16:43

Names that should be spelt with a 'y' that are instead spelt with 'ie'

trifleandbaileys · 20/01/2021 16:47

I don't see twee as a bad thing! I actually quite like a lot of the names listed on here, apart from the hyphenated ones, which I think are more common than twee

CharlieBoo · 20/01/2021 18:26

It’s not always mild critique though is it.. some here have said they have almost vomited in their own mouth at the mention of a ‘twee’ name. Some are even so narrow minded that a child named Izzy May would never have any kind of professional career. But if you’re called Richard or Elizabeth then they’ll be fine.

Meh. It's the internet, where would we be without hyperbole? But in any case, if you look at the first page of this thread - that's what the poster mentioned - nothing like that has been said about those names. They've just been listed in strings of twee names. Very inoffensive.

It'd be another story if someone said "Luella-May sounds like an axe murderer to me". That's clearly ridiculous and we all know that opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one. But someone getting in a snit because other people don't like their child's name, on a forum set up to ask whether you like or dislike particular names? That's not so reasonable.

sundowners · 20/01/2021 19:20

Names like Elsie-May or Evie- Grace
Alfie/Archie

DfEisashambles · 20/01/2021 19:38

@SmeleanorSmellstrop personally I find what you said entirely rational and calm.

People can give their opinions which are interesting but at the end of the day you go with what you like.

DfEisashambles · 20/01/2021 19:40

Personally I find the smug slagging off children’s names entertaining Grin

Snapsnapcrocodile · 21/01/2021 07:00

Why has no-one said Emily or Olivia? Is it because they are popular?

I think they are twee.

TheOneLeggedJockey · 21/01/2021 07:02

I’m not a particular fan on either of those names, but they’re not twee.

GarlicSoup · 21/01/2021 07:10

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Tweedledum and Tweedledee come to mind.
Grin
MrsBrunch · 21/01/2021 07:17

@PolarnOPirate

Milly, Tilly, Maisie, Daisy, Evie, Blossom, Bertie, Wilf.

I know siblings Matilda and Billy....... Tilly and Billy.

I knew a Tiffany and Tristan - Fanny and Stan
sunlightbuttons · 21/01/2021 07:18

I think almost every girl's name from my DD's school class has been mentioned on this thread Grin
