This is the latest name suggestion from my OH for our little boy due in May

What's your thoughts? I'm undecided

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SallyCinnamon86 · 07/01/2021 20:00

Love it! It was on the shortlist for my son

ThatWeirdWeek · 07/01/2021 20:01

Sorry, I think it’s awful as a given name.
Imagine an older man, being addressed as Sonny by younger people. Humiliating.
How about:
Chase
Blake
Arlo

But Chase isn’t?

sawyersfishbiscuits · 07/01/2021 20:02

I love it. The one I know is an absolute darling

Ewanispurple · 07/01/2021 20:02

I love it so much!!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/01/2021 20:02

Sonny seems a little bit cute for an adult (although adorable on a child!). Maybe it is one of those nn's (like Buddy) that can be used for any boys name? If not, maybe put a longer name like Sullivan or Solomon on the BC to give him more options when he's older?

FippertyGibbett · 07/01/2021 20:03

I think of Sonny and Cher, and he used to mistreat her so it’s a no from me.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 07/01/2021 20:05

I don’t think I’d be able to take an adult Sonny very seriously.

galaxy9 · 07/01/2021 20:12

Gorgeous gorgeous name. On my shortlist for sure

mamah2019 · 07/01/2021 20:12

I love this name! Go for it! X

Justcashnosweets · 07/01/2021 20:23

@DueMay2021 of course! Flynn, Jamie and Brodie were also on our list.

DenisetheMenace · 07/01/2021 20:24

Quite like it but at my age makes me think of Sonny Bono who was a nasty piece of work.

RecipeStealingBitch · 07/01/2021 20:24

Other names I feel have a similar vibe:

Milo
Arlo
Luca
Rowan
Heath
Bodhi
Jasper

FluffyEggsontoast · 07/01/2021 20:39

How about Seth, Tristan, Spencer or Ronnie sounds similar

DueMay2021 · 07/01/2021 20:40

@Justcashnosweets Brodie is nice

DueMay2021 · 07/01/2021 20:45

@SallyCinnamon86 what else was on your list if you don't mind me asking? 🤔

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/01/2021 20:46

I love this name. I knew a child named Sonny once and he was a shining, charismatic child. The sort of child who just entranced you. I may be influenced by this.

FluffyEggsontoast · 07/01/2021 20:46

I love the name Sonny by the way

FluffyEggsontoast · 07/01/2021 20:47

You seem to like the y/ie endings

How about
Vincent Vinnie
Laurence Laurie
Spencer Spennie

DueMay2021 · 07/01/2021 21:01

@FluffyEggsontoast the other name on our list is Stanley

We also considered Toby but my OH thinks it's a dogs name 😂 which could be said about a lot of names

OP posts:
resm · 07/01/2021 21:10

I like it, but I’m a big Law & Order fan.

Fireflies33 · 07/01/2021 21:15

I love it!

SendHelp30 · 07/01/2021 21:17

Sidney
Lenny
Vinnie
Tommy
Billy
Freddie
Paddy

Chilldonaldchill · 07/01/2021 21:35

I don't like it. I used to know one whose surname was a place name. So he was called Sonny Basildon (not the real surname) which just always sounded like a description.

Firebird83 · 07/01/2021 22:17

I quite like it but I have seen it described as ‘downmarket’ on here.

Sausagedog1 · 07/01/2021 23:47

This name really polarises opinion.
I personally quite like it. I wouldn't choose it though. I like a name to sound strong on a man and Sonny sounds more cheeky and Jack the lad. I do know two child Sonnys though and they do suit their names. I don't think it will cause them any issues in life!
