This is the latest name suggestion from my OH for our little boy due in May

What's your thoughts? I'm undecided

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SameToo · 07/01/2021 18:35

Love it. Knew a Sonny and he was a doll Smile

Aquamarine1029 · 07/01/2021 18:35

I think it's awful, especially for when the child is an adult.

happytoday73 · 07/01/2021 18:37

I know one.. Suits him as child.. Less sold on it as adult

Onlinedilema · 07/01/2021 18:39

Don’t like it.

FenEel · 07/01/2021 18:41

Not keen, it sounds like a "policeman telling off a kid" name "alright Sonny, let's be having you".

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 07/01/2021 18:47

Really dislike it.

Kanaloa · 07/01/2021 19:01

It’s ok, a bit child like but basically fine. Agree that it reminds me of someone being told off, like ‘here sonny Jim!’

PotteringAlong · 07/01/2021 19:05

I know 3 and every time I hear it I just think “that’s not a proper name”

DramaAlpaca · 07/01/2021 19:06

It's truly awful.

SpacePug · 07/01/2021 19:09

Terrible name, bad for a child but worse for a teenager/adult. Could find a name it works as a nickname for. Sebastian maybe

AlwaysLatte · 07/01/2021 19:11

Lovely name! It was one on our shortlist.

LatinJules · 07/01/2021 19:15

Sonny and Cher...
Wouldn't use it.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 07/01/2021 19:15

I really like Sonny. I feel nowadays people just name their children what they like - 'trendy', old fashioned, a name after a relative etc and people really don't bat an eyelid. It just becomes a name. (Exception of Elon musk's baby perhaps)

And don't worry about an expression that's going to be at least 40 + years older than your child is... e.g Sonny Jim...

Justcashnosweets · 07/01/2021 19:15

I love it. Was on my list for boys names.

Ithinkim · 07/01/2021 19:19

Will you pronounce it Sonny or Sunny? I like Sunny

nancyclancy123 · 07/01/2021 19:21

Love it!!

DueMay2021 · 07/01/2021 19:36

@AlwaysLatte @Justcashnosweets thanks for you replies I was just wondering if you don't mind me asking what other names were on your lists please? 😊 I need all the help I can get

DueMay2021 · 07/01/2021 19:37

@Ithinkim I'm not sure think I need to say it out loud a few times

RecipeStealingBitch · 07/01/2021 19:39

I can imagine it being cute on a little boy but not a grown up. My friend considered it - she also liked Robin, Max, Freddie and William (with Billy for short).

DueMay2021 · 07/01/2021 19:50

@RecipeStealingBitch I liked Robin but thought it was more of a girls name and we like Max but it's our nephews name so we didn't think we should use it again

Thank you for the suggestions

OP posts:
FancySomeChips · 07/01/2021 19:53

Yeah don’t use Max! That wouldn’t go down well!

Sonny is lovely.

Mummysgonetobed · 07/01/2021 19:54

Not convinced. I know of 5 at the moment as well, newborn to toddlers so it seems quite popular. Don’t think it sounds great as a grown mans name.

emptyplinth · 07/01/2021 19:56

Terrible

Marcipex · 07/01/2021 19:58

Sorry, I think it’s awful as a given name.
Imagine an older man, being addressed as Sonny by younger people. Humiliating.

Choose another name and use Sonny for a nickname at home if you want to.

How about:
Chase
Blake
Arlo

ThatWeirdWeek · 07/01/2021 19:59

I think it’s a great name. Certainly prefer it to Thomas, William etc. and not too ‘out there’.
