Hi.

I am pregnant with our (definitely) last child. We have 2 DS already. We've found out that we're having DS number 3😂. I was completely adamant this one felt different and have been very excited to use my favourite girls name. Lost many bets. Alas.

Lucy is youthful, sweet and elegant.
It means light.
It has both vintage and modern appeal.
It's timeless.

It's not a name suited to a boy, though.

My Q to you is what is the boys equivalent of such a classic yet modern and fresh sounding name? (We have a Jack and Tom). DH likes Finn.

Help! Help! Help!

The boy version of Lucy is Lucius (Malfoy!)

Frederick.
Laurence

TheRealHousewife · 06/11/2020 19:07

Tom 😊 Not short for Thomas. Just Tom.

In the film Underworld Lucian is pronounced both lu - cee - an and Lu - shan by different characters. I liked that as it showed the differences in the characters’ backgrounds as, of course, vampires and werewolves live a long time and are well travelled.

I'm sure Lucca or Lucas means light too.

Coffeecak3 · 06/11/2020 19:44

Lowen is Cornish. It means joyful.
Xavier means bright.

Luke would be good.

Finn is also quite nice, I know a nice wee boy called Finn

Bubbletrouble43 · 06/11/2020 19:48

Luca of course. Lucia is also nice, and you're right, Lucy is lovely

@BoudicasBoudoir

Not Lucian.

Some people (most Americans?) would pronounce it Looshan and that sounds horrible.

I would pronounce it Looshan and I’m English. Confused I taught a Lucian and that was definitely how it was pronounced.

If you like Lucy and want something that sounds similar, I like Luca and Luke. If you don’t want that then I like Finn. I think it needs to be quite a short name personally as your other boys have short names.

motherf88 · 06/11/2020 20:02

Luke or Sam or Toby

crimsonclover · 06/11/2020 20:23

‘Jude’ comes to mind.

Chilldonaldchill · 06/11/2020 20:30

The one I know is pronounced LOO-see-un.. literally like Lucy with an -uhn sound on the end.

hescheating · 06/11/2020 20:31

Lucas yes, Luca no.
Luca is too trendy.
Luke, Lucian?

hescheating · 06/11/2020 20:32

Luca for me is a Milo kinda name.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/11/2020 20:34

Stick with Lucy - it'll make him resilient.

🤣

I like Jack, Tom & Finn

Little bugger tricking you like that though x

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/11/2020 20:37

I wouldn't go with Lucian etc

At some stage someone will say something about you loving Lucy & on top of not being the girl you were 'expecting' it won't be good.

Maybe you'll have number 4 😉or a dog. Lucy us a great name for a dog.
