Earthy girls names

My friend wants a strong earthy girls name inspired either by the sea, forrest, or mountains. She loves the names Bear, Wolfie, Forrest, Rocky, and Caspien for a boy, but the baby is a girl.

For a girl she is considering Sequioa after the trees, or Gaia after Mother Nature, but she says she much prefers her boys names. She wants a name that is unusual and will be the only child with this name in their class so wants to avoid flower names, and more classic earthy names such as Willow, Fern, etc. She knows a baby River. Any ideas?

@MikeUniformMike I don’t think Seren is new. DD dad wanted it after reading a book with a character with that name in his early teens he’s now almost 40. It never really grew on me though so went into middle name. There’s also a local lady in her 60s called Seren. I think it just went out of fashion for a while.

No, it's a new name. I can't argue that it might have been occasionally used as a name 60 yrs ago (cf. 16-yr old Apple), but it is so popular now that it will look dated. If you like it, fine, but I don't.

Seren was first used in the late 1940s and gradually became more popular before a big increase in popularity starting in the late 90s with a peak in 2009.

The dark greener site has a good visualisation from 1996 onwards. Seren is now on a downward trend:

Oneandabean · 27/10/2020 14:47

I think the point was, definitely not a new name.

MikeUniformMike · 27/10/2020 14:51

It's a celebrity-inspired name.

The name Siân is similarly inspired, but her photos were in The Sun.

One person having a noun used as a name doesn't really make it a name.

Oneandabean · 27/10/2020 15:12

I can’t say I know of any celebrities with that name and don’t know what the daily star reference is. As previously stated there’s definitely been more than one person with that name 😂 and has been used for many years, so not new either. Perfectly fine to not like a name but unnecessary to make things up about it.

@Oneandabean, are you accusing me of being a liar? I can assure you that I have neither the inclination nor imagination to lie.

Celebrity-inspired names is a thing. The name may have been in use before the celebrity became well-known, but exposure to a name can cause a trend.

Examples of celeb-inspired names might be Darcey, Kylie, Britney, Debbie (Reynolds), Samantha (Bewitched), Shannon (Doherty), Ada (Peaky Blinders), Tiffany (EastEnders).

MikeUniformMike · 27/10/2020 20:47

The parent might not be naming the baby after the celebrity, but they might have heard of the name that way.
