Earthy girls names

My friend wants a strong earthy girls name inspired either by the sea, forrest, or mountains. She loves the names Bear, Wolfie, Forrest, Rocky, and Caspien for a boy, but the baby is a girl.

For a girl she is considering Sequioa after the trees, or Gaia after Mother Nature, but she says she much prefers her boys names. She wants a name that is unusual and will be the only child with this name in their class so wants to avoid flower names, and more classic earthy names such as Willow, Fern, etc. She knows a baby River. Any ideas?

Dara- in Irish it means Oak but has some nice meanings in other languages.

What about Birdie or Dove?

I love earthy names too and I am due a LB in March, who is going to be called River :-)

Of her choices I really like Gaia and Caspian - although they are unusual, they aren't too "out there" or overly hippy to me.

If she is Scottish, I like Vaila for a girl after the Island or Leith for a boy after the River.

Other lovely "earthy"/ nature names for me are Heath for a boy and Cassia for a girl.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/10/2020 20:22

Oh, sorry just re-read and saw in your OP she is having a girl. I still love Cassia, Gaia or Vaila but some water themed names for girls are also lovely like Morven (also Scottish!) or classical sea-themed Nerissa, Marina or maybe Ondine (mermaid) or the Welsh Morwenna, Morgan/a.

pittypottyputtypink · 25/10/2020 20:28

@IamnotwhouthinkIam thank you for these unusual suggestions

@LadyEloise

@Jessbow Cavan is a county in Ireland The Shannon river is the longest river in Ireland.

Cavan people get slagged for being tight with money. Smile
My experience is different having witnessed generosity from Cavan friends and enjoying great hospitality at their wedding.

Don’t forget the industrial estate and airport!

Cavan as a name is a pretty odd idea. Like calling your child Warwickshire.

If you like the Welsh names OP make sure your friend does her research on pronunciation.

Eira is EY-ra (ey as in hey and ra as in rabbit. It does sound more like EYE-ra in some parts of Wales)

Tesni is TESS-nee.

Ffion is FEE-on.

Seren is often mispronounced as serrun - the en is like the en in hen and pen.

You can hear how Eira and Ffion are pronounced here: www.bbc.co.uk/wales/livinginwales/sites/howdoisay/names/index.shtml?e

Not Welsh but Cassia is lovely.

loveisanopensore · 26/10/2020 14:45

@Limpid
Kerry, Clare & Tyrone are all used as names.
Wouldn't use Cavan myself but would happily use it's older name Breffny/Bréifne.

TenShortStories · 26/10/2020 18:20

Not sure that it's really a name, but Conifer has a nice sound, Connie for short.

MikeUniformMike · 26/10/2020 19:01

Seren (means star in welsh) - hmm. It's the welsh word for star, and only recently been used as a first name. It's naff.
Delphine (means dolphin in french) - it means someone from Delphi. Nothing to do with dolphins.

percheron67 · 26/10/2020 19:11

Earthy?? Muddie.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 26/10/2020 19:12

@TenShortStories

And if one think's she may tall, she could have a middle name of Leylandii.

VenusClapTrap · 26/10/2020 19:42

Nerine - flower name but rarely used
Marisol - Spanish name meaning sea and sun.
