Due a baby girl in November and this name keeps on popping up but I'm worried it will be a little too out there? It's a lovely flower and it seems to fit well with the middle name Kimberly. Plus it's the only name I love, the others I have shortlisted I just like.

OP do you like the name Marlowe? It may have already been suggested so sorry if so! I’m too ill to read it all 😂 also love Mallory as you’ve said. And I think both sound fine with the middle name. They’re not often said together anyway.

@Squeakerfoot

In National Velvet one of the sisters is called Malvolia with the nickname Mally. Would Mally work as a stand-alone name?
Mali, the Welsh version of Molly, is pronounced this way. I've always liked it although outside of Wales you might find that people's first stab at the pronunciation comes out like the country.

There’s 7 pages and I haven’t read them all! It’s not a name I love, what about Marlow?

I pronounce marshmallow with an 'e' not an 'a' sound.

squishee · 05/10/2020 13:26

I like the idea behind it, but not the name itself.

Milo(h)?
Milly?
Flossie?

VenusClapTrap · 05/10/2020 13:38

I quite like it actually. I think of the flower first, and the sweet second.

Don't call your child Pootle or Perkin

Perkin is an old English boy’s name actually, meaning ‘Little Peter’. Perkin Warbeck was a particularly interesting character. Pootle, on the other hand... Grin

What about Marlow instead. Honestly if you have a mallow the whole marshmallow thing will be there for life.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/10/2020 13:47

How about Marlowe? I know a baby Marlowe and think it's a lovely name.

@SacreBleeurgh

What about Malin as an alternative? I LOVE that name...
As you have a French inspired username I’m surprised to hear you say that Confused en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/malin
