Bronwen Scout for a girl?

I really like Winnie for a girl, could Bronwen be shortened to Winnie? We've decided on Scout for a middle name if it's a girl. Do you like Bronwen Scout?

Honestly, no. Sorry. We clearly have very different taste.

TinaTraybake · 26/09/2020 00:47

@DramaAlpaca
That's ok! I'm glad to receive honest opinions

Oh dear, I feel a bit mean now Blush Don't worry about what randoms like me say, if you both love the name then you should go ahead and use it.

By the way, I do think you could use Winnie as a diminutive of Bronwen.

TinaTraybake · 26/09/2020 01:04

@DramaAlpaca
I'm not sure if I love Bronwen, but I do really like Winnie. We might end up going with just Winnie, or maybe something completely different. I'd maybe think of using Winifred but my son's name is Freddie and DH thinks that there would be one too many Fred's in the house! Thank you for your opinion I really appreciate it

I think it’s lovely, and you could shorten it to Winnie, just make sure you’re ok with whatever her class mates might call her by, as it may be something different

Ghosts2020 · 26/09/2020 02:16

I personally quite like the name, not seething I would pick but still a very nice name, if you're set on winnie as a nn maybe try this thread for inspiration x

I really love this

ifigoup · 26/09/2020 05:26

I like Bronwen, but not Winnie or Scout. But, as someone else said above, who cares what I think?!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/09/2020 05:30

Scout is just awful, sorry. But Bronwen is lovely!

MercyBodle · 26/09/2020 05:43

I really like Bronwen Scout, but really dislike Winnie. I love nicknames but not Winnie for Bronwen.

84claire84 · 26/09/2020 05:51

I really like all the names. Please don't worry what the world of MN thinks. Your baby, your choice.

What about Winnie Bronwen Scout surname?

whiteroseredrose · 26/09/2020 06:16

I personally really like Bronwen but not Scout (Brownie Scout?).

As others have said, pick a name you like but that you think your DD will easily be able to live with.

I know you want to use Winnie because of Winnie the Pooh but think about that. Your DD may then be called Poo. Children can be awful.

garlictwist · 26/09/2020 06:24

I'm afraid I find Bronwen a very ugly name and Scout is just not to my taste at all.

zigaziga · 26/09/2020 08:04

Oh I’ve always absolutely loved the name Bronwen.

CaffiSaliMali · 26/09/2020 09:06

How are you pronouncing Bronwen OP? The wen is like the english word 'when'.

Welsh 'wen' names are often mispronounced with the 'wen' as 'wyn'. However, wen names are feminine and wyn names masculine. Hence Alwen and Gwen - girls and Alwyn and Gwyn - boys.

I think Winnie is fine on its own if that's what you want to go for - you clearly love the name. Normally I would suggest Winifred but I see your DH's point about having Freddie and Winnifred.

AlwaysLatte · 26/09/2020 09:08

I honestly saw that out of the corner of my eye and thought it was a thread about Brownies and Scouts until I read it properly! So although I like both names I wouldn't put them together.

RouxLou · 26/09/2020 09:37

I absolutely LOVE the names Winnie and Scout, although I’m not a fan of Bronwen. Could you just use Winnie Scout or Winter Scout (nn Winnie)? X

TheRealJeanLouise · 26/09/2020 09:42

Obviously I’d be all for Scout Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/09/2020 09:42

Oh I like it.

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/09/2020 09:44

I like Bronwyn but not with Scout. (It reminds me of a brown scout uniform!)

MollyButton · 26/09/2020 09:47

I think Bronwyn Scout sounds like a peak in the Lake district or maybe a Welsh mountain.

igivein · 26/09/2020 09:48

Not keen on Bronwen - but love the similar Anwen, which could still shorten to Winnie

ChrissyPlummer · 26/09/2020 09:50

Not keen on scout TBH. How about Gwyneth, I used to work with a Gwyneth that was shortened to Winnie.

Mischance · 26/09/2020 09:51

Not Bronwen Scout - it does sound like a branch of the Guides, or, as someone has said above, a hill to climb.

Bronwen is OK - but Scout? - really?
