Rio or Cruz

Honest opinions please! Rio or Cruz for a boy. My DP really hates them but I really like them... I like unusual but not really out there names. So names that you just rarely hear of, would love some other suggestions if you have any Grin

I personally think they seem very try hard. If I had to choose, it would be Rio.

DramaAlpaca · 24/08/2020 19:46

Rio is marginally better.

diddlediddle · 24/08/2020 19:46

Rio is the better of the two.

AgeLikeWine · 24/08/2020 19:47

Neither, sorry. Both a bit ‘footballer’ for my taste.

LizzieMacQueen · 24/08/2020 19:48

Academic debate surely, if your DH hates them. You'll need to find a compromise.

Inching · 24/08/2020 19:49

I'm with your DP. They sound like the kind of thing a Z-list celeb would think was vaguely edgy.

Anyway, surely you can't use them if your partner hates them?

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/08/2020 19:50

Its really unfair to give your baby a name your partner hates.

yhyh · 24/08/2020 19:52

Well I'm trying to get him to like them more if I showed him that other people think they're nice but clearly this has failed 😂
Okay so another two I like are Emry and Eden?

Jamhandprints · 24/08/2020 19:52

I agree, very footbally. How about Rafael?

yhyh · 24/08/2020 19:53

Haven't mentioned them two names yet because every name I mention he says no straight away, I don't even think he's paying attention at this point

Cornishmumofone · 24/08/2020 19:53

Eden is nice. You'll have some people saying it's a girl's name... my nephew would disagree :-)

Sls668 · 24/08/2020 19:57

I love both Rio and Cruz personally!

newtothistown · 24/08/2020 20:02

Unless you have Spanish/Latin/Portuguese background I think it would be a bit too try hard.

Shmithecat2 · 24/08/2020 20:03

Rio is the lesser of two evils.

Mangofandangoo · 24/08/2020 20:04

I would say Cruz is definitely out there but Rio isn't too bad.

All I can think is imagine him as an adult handing out his business card to with a name like Cruz - sorry if that's mean

Miljea · 24/08/2020 20:05

Eden sounds like a girls name. Emry, if you are of my generation, sounds like the 70s comic, Dick Emery.

What does he favour, name-wise?

yhyh · 24/08/2020 20:05

@newtothistown DP is Jamaican I am Caucasian

OP posts:
HeddaGarbled · 24/08/2020 20:07

Ethan? Similar sound to Eden but more traditional, if that’s your DP’s issue.

JanewaysBun · 24/08/2020 20:09

Sorry i dislike them both and they aren't unusual at all! Every Wag seems to have one or the other.

Emry is ok, Eden is a girl's name imo.

Oakley
Hudson
Hunter

Or if you like Spanish names
Javi (javier)
Arsenio
Miguel
?

Puffalicious · 24/08/2020 20:11

Agree with PP. Very footballery.

Sonny
Arlo
Caleb
Cal
Spencer
Innes
Fraser
Marcus
Dan
Finn

Any good?

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/08/2020 20:16

He's Jamaican, you are Caucasian?

He's from a particular country and you are white?
Please give him a normal name.

nevernotstruggling · 24/08/2020 20:20

Eden is amazing and not gendered.

I also like Thierry

formerbabe · 24/08/2020 20:22

I really like the names Rio and Cruz.

How about Tate, Leo, Leon?

yhyh · 24/08/2020 20:22

It's not that he likes more traditional. One of his choices is Devan for example which I'm not keen on

OP posts:
yhyh · 24/08/2020 20:23

I like Leo but don't know if I could picture myself with a little boy called Leo, I'll add it to the list and see what DP thinks, maybe it'll grow on me
