Honest opinions please! Rio or Cruz for a boy. My DP really hates them but I really like them... I like unusual but not really out there names. So names that you just rarely hear of, would love some other suggestions if you have any Grin

No to Rio and Cruz, especially Cruz
Eden is quite nice
Emry I really like
Leo I really like

What about

Arlo
Jude
Rex
Dash

janetmendoza · 24/08/2020 20:30

Rio! Eden is also cool.

Callybrid · 24/08/2020 20:33

I know a boy Eden and it suits him. Only met one girl Eden and she went by Edie.

I like Rio - it’s easy to pronounce and spell and it’s cute but not ridiculous for a grown up.

I like Devan too.

Not so keen on Cruz

TheRosariojewels · 24/08/2020 20:34

I love Devon. Sorry, not keen on Rio or Cruz.

EggyPegg · 24/08/2020 20:51

Emry looks like you've tried to name him Emery but have missed a letter. I'm not keen on Devan but don't mind Devon. Appreciate that the pronunciation is different though. Not a fan of Rio or Cruz either. As others have said, they're very 'footballer' names.

Avery
Edison
Elwood (I know a one who goes by that and the nickname Woody)
Emerson

Oneandabean · 24/08/2020 21:59

I like emry, I have emrys on my list which is welsh. I’ve only known Eden as a girls name, I’m not a fan of your other names

missmouse101 · 24/08/2020 22:02

Eden is nice, Rio is OK, Cruz is utterly awful.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 25/08/2020 22:10

What are your DPs choices ? (Please god they are not as crass as Rio and. Cruz' ) ...

sunyla · 26/08/2020 03:34

Love both!

Tavannach · 26/08/2020 04:13

I like Rio and Eden. Cruz is a girls' name in Spain (unless your surname is Beckham).
Jenson?

BurtonHouse · 26/08/2020 18:00

What about Devon?
Also like Ethan, Max, Rex, Ralph, Cory and Blair

itsjakeandamy · 27/08/2020 09:59

I know a few boy Eden's

itsjakeandamy · 27/08/2020 10:01

Sorry that didn't work. I know a few boys called Edan but mostly spelt that way instead of Eden.
Rio and Cruz just sound very footballer (does anyone else have a Cruz other than the Beckhams?) and very 90s as well.
Emry looks unfinished. Emryn might work better.
Leon would work well maybe?

LittleRa · 27/08/2020 10:02

How about Rui?

AwkwardPaws27 · 27/08/2020 10:07

How about:
Caleb
Dante
Ezra
Elijah
Zeke (Ezekiel)
Nate (Nathaniel)
Roman

CharismaticVic · 27/08/2020 10:08

They both sound like made up names but if I had to pick I'd say Rio as it seems more rounded off than Cruz.

OohKittens · 27/08/2020 10:12

These aren't unusual names. We live rural in pembrokeshire and in my daughter's class there are three Rios! Also about 10 others in the school and quite a few called cruz. Including one of the siblings of a rio.

formerbabe · 27/08/2020 10:16

I agree they're not unusual. They're both quite 'cool' names...I definitely consider them to be names that footballers wives would choose but that doesn't mean they're not nice. We're in London and no one would raise an eyebrow at hearing names like that.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 27/08/2020 10:23

I'm not keen on your suggestions, OP, but I took to Devan instantly.

My brother and his wife had similar wranglings when their daughters were born!

ballsdeep · 27/08/2020 10:24

Horrible names. They won't age well. I agree with your dh

willitbetonight · 27/08/2020 10:26

Lots of snobs on here. My kids all have very traditional "English" names but I don't think Rio or Cruz are particularly out there. Maybe watch good girls and be sure you still like Rio! It's not like Chardonnay for example where it is a bit naff to name after a grape. I work in a very traditional professional industry. It's very international and people have all manner of names some of which leave you unsure how to pronounce. It's really not a problem and I've never been or seen someone being judgmental. Of the two I prefer Rio but your DH needs to like it too.

Inching · 27/08/2020 10:33

What would put me off Cruz (other than the connotations of organised fun on a large boat and looking for sex in parks) is that in the Spanish of Spain (rather than, say, Latin America), it would be pronounced 'Crooth', rhyming with 'Ruth'.

chubbyhotchoc · 27/08/2020 14:16

Leo is better

yhyh · 27/08/2020 19:12

Okay so I have a new one for the mix since we can't agree on the others!
How about Flynn ?! DP says he's unsure but I think it's quite cute! Thoughts?

We have a Devin (male) in our family. The spelling of Devin is the usual one i thought?

What about Acer or Tate?
