Thoughts on Mildred?

Trying to agree a name for DD expected in a few months.

DH thinks old-fashioned names like this are making a comeback. I think over my dead body. He points out that we know an Agatha, Florence, Dulcie, Edith and Pamela. I'm not fond of any of these but I don't think any of them are as bad as Mildred?

AIBU? Or is he?

I’m going to add Christobel, Marianne, Heather, Christina and Leonora to my ‘maybe list’ – love all of them! Roberta is growing on me too.

Those names are baaaaaaaaad! I didn’t think it would be possible to beat Mildred but you have. I’m definitely going to suggest Doris, Doreen, Gladys, Edna and Thelma and see what reaction they get.

Myrtle? I know a tiny one and one that’s in her teens. It’s a name that’s definitely grown on me. I also know of a little Doreen, named after her great grandmother - she’s generally known as Reena though.

almost... totally outing myself here - but he doesn't mind if I share... 3 of his girls are Thomasina (Tammy), Williamina (Willa) and Ernestina (Nesta) - I love the nicknames, not so keen on the full ones.

Christabel is the more usual spelling of that name. I know two lovely Christabels - a schoolgirl and an adult. Both rock their name!

I know a Mildred. She passionately hates her name.

I quite like Cordelia. Of all the names you've mentioned I would probably go Sadie Victoria

Mildred sounds too much like Mildew and to dread!

I tend to like old fashioned names but I don’t love Mildred - it’s too similar to the words ‘mildew’ and ‘dread’ for me!

Mildred has a blue rinse that looks like a dyed cauliflower, wears beige or pink cardigans buttoned up to her chin, and always has scrunched-up tissues escaping from her sleeves.

Agree Mildred is really really bad. My auto predict went straight to mould as was typing it!

Mildred is dreadful.

Bunny can be a nn for Barbara or Berenice. I quite like it and so does Katie Price - it's one of her daughter's names.

I absolutely love Frances, especially with the nn Frankie. Constance is another favourite of mine.

Second worst name in the world, after Fanny! Sounds like a drain cleaner.

My niece is milly and we always call her Mildred... jokingly or not she answers too it 😂 but her actual name is Milly x
