Clementine - all the questions!

We're expecting our first little girl and quite keen on the name Clementine but wondering about a few things...

Pronunciation - would you pronounce it Clementyne or teen?

Nicknames? Which are best?

Middle names - really struggling with middle names that flow nicely.

Any help appreciated! X

Tyne, I think.

Clementina would be eena though.

MN:
Clementine Rose goes nicely.

I knew a little Clementine a few years ago, whilst working in Early Years, I love the name and never met another. It was pronounced tine and her nickname was Clemmie which was lovely and suited her.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 28/06/2020 17:58

My snake is called Clementine (Tyne) nickname Clemmie.

Twickerhun · 28/06/2020 17:59

Oh I know a baby clementine its such a beautiful name. Pronounced ‘Teen’, never shortened. Middle name Mary

PotteringAlong · 28/06/2020 17:59

I would say teen.

Whatsyourflava · 28/06/2020 18:01

Ahh one of my favourite names- such a great choice - love it so much

Bigbrowproblems · 28/06/2020 18:01

Tyne.

It's a lovely name and we didn't have a girl so it's our much loved pet's name Grin

stardrop87 · 28/06/2020 18:02

It seems like there's already divided opinion on tyne or teen...it's such a strange one, I'm never sure what it's meant to be! 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Ellmau I do like Clementine Rose, just unsure if Rose is an overused middle name?

Clementine to rhyme with Tyne not Teen

Nicknames? Which are best? Clemmie, Clem.

Middle names - Rose is an obvious one, but overused. Louise? Mary? Olivia? Margaret? Elizabeth? Your maiden name?

I don't like it sorry. I don't like the Cl (Chl, Kl ) girl names, and it's a bit too fruity and frilly. I don't mind it in boys' names - Clive, Clyde, Clement, Clwyd, Cliff, even Clay. I draw the line at Clarence though.

I think if you are asking how to say it, rather than to gauge how often you'd get the other pronunciation, then you might want to think of another name.

Papergirl1968 · 28/06/2020 18:06

It’s ClemenTYNE in the song oh my darling Clementine.

Papergirl1968 · 28/06/2020 18:07

And in the orange...

LotusClover · 28/06/2020 18:07

Not overly keen on Clementine, and the only nickname I can think of is Clemmy which is even worse. I would pronounce it "clemen-tyne".

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 28/06/2020 18:09

I love it, either pronunciation
I don't think it needs a middle name and they are not compulsory

SpaceSharkTea · 28/06/2020 18:10

Tyne,

I know of two. One never shortened and one nicknamed Clemmie. Both from very different backgrounds but both suit their name wonderfully.

OneMoreLight · 28/06/2020 18:14

Tyne

butterry · 28/06/2020 18:19

I think it’s pronounced -tyne but I can imagine some people would say -teen. It’s a pretty name but I don’t like Clemmy, makes me think of phlegm

mothtoaflame · 28/06/2020 18:21

Beautiful name and I think Clemmie is a cute nickname.

MikeUniformMike · 28/06/2020 18:22

Clemmy is a bit like Clammy. Not good if you live in the midlands.

ClashCityRocker · 28/06/2020 18:22

It's a pretty name but the obvious shortening - Clemmy- just reminds me of clammy or phlemmy.

I think I'd pronounce it Tyne.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 28/06/2020 18:23

In a cavern, in a canyon
Excavating for a mine
Dwelt a miner forty-niner
And his daughter, Clementine

So it's tyne to rhyme with mine.

Andmaybetothetop · 28/06/2020 18:25

I’m just putting my baby Clementine to bed! We call her ClemenTEEN or “Mimi” which was started by her older sister.
Lots of people call her Clemmie though which is also fine by me 😊

BabyLlamaZen · 28/06/2020 18:26

Clemen-Tyne

Clemmy as nickname.

BabyLlamaZen · 28/06/2020 18:27

Knew a clemmy years ago and it didnt sound strange at all.
