DH and I love the name Maeve (Pronounced like dave but with an M not a D). It can also be spelt Meabh or Meadbh( Irish spellings) What do you think of the name? What do you think of it? Also if you have any boys names (preferably Irish names) to go with it they would be appreciated Smile

Absolutely love it. It was on my shortlist for DD.

Ritascornershop · 06/06/2020 16:00

I love it, has a wonderful sound and I think of Queen Mab too.

missmouse101 · 06/06/2020 16:03

Really dislike it. Sounds like a dowdy OAP name.

foxychox · 06/06/2020 16:09

I love it! I've also heard of a MaryEvelyn who was Maeve for short, very pretty!

derekmorgan · 06/06/2020 16:16

Lovely name.

Thisismytimetoshine · 06/06/2020 16:16

Beautiful.

PuppyMonkey · 06/06/2020 16:20

I think of the character from West World - who is definitely not dowdy. Grin

Great name.

Shopgirl1 · 06/06/2020 16:31

Maeve is a lovely name.

For boys I like Seán, Fionn, Ciarán, Lochlan.

MittensTheSerpent · 06/06/2020 16:35

I love it. I just read 'The Dutch House' and one of the main characters is called Maeve.

Lynda07 · 06/06/2020 16:36

Love it. I have a friend who called her daughter, 'Maeve'. Having said that she was of Irish parentage.

Merename · 06/06/2020 16:37

Love it.

Whatsyourflava · 06/06/2020 16:38

Love this name - go for it!

Northernexile · 06/06/2020 16:41

Love Maeve, and any of the spellings.

Boys: Ruairí (though I am very biased re that one!), Dara, Senan, Daithí

IVflytrap · 06/06/2020 16:57

Maeve is a lovely name, definitely go for it.

I'm not Irish, but I really love the name Tadhg for a boy.

Foxesandcrosses · 06/06/2020 17:39

It seems to be very popular on MN but I am sorry to say I strongly dislike it.
Is it an old granny chic name?

Howgreenwasmyvalley · 06/06/2020 17:42

No it's not an old granny chic name, its just a lovely name.

whatausername · 06/06/2020 17:47

I don't think of it positively, it seems like a total fad name and quite ugly to my eyes and ears. A PP was spot on when they said dowdy. But it really matters whether you like it, not me.

Foxesandcrosses · 06/06/2020 17:49

Can't stop thinking it's Dave but with a 'M'

Thisismytimetoshine · 06/06/2020 17:56

it seems like a total fad name
Confused

I have a Méabh and she loves it. When I started work a colleague thought her name was DaveSmile! It's rarely pronounced correctly here but she (and her friends) find it amusing when they have a supply teacher at school. Ruari was our boy choice.

Oblomov20 · 06/06/2020 18:04

Dislike. Very old fashioned, like an old woman.

ILoveStickers · 06/06/2020 18:45

Maeve is great, but I do have a soft spot for the spelling Méabh.

I think Mavis is an old lady name, but Méabh is a totally different name, and doesn't have the old lady thing going on at all. She's a strong warrior woman!

howlatthetrees · 06/06/2020 18:47

I love it

wizzler · 06/06/2020 19:18

Love it.
Cillian for a boy
