DH and I love the name Maeve (Pronounced like dave but with an M not a D). It can also be spelt Meabh or Meadbh( Irish spellings) What do you think of the name? What do you think of it? Also if you have any boys names (preferably Irish names) to go with it they would be appreciated Smile

I like it! Smile

HappyDinosaur · 06/06/2020 14:45

I think it's a beautiful name.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/06/2020 14:45

Love it.

samandcj · 06/06/2020 14:46

Love it!

FlamingIris · 06/06/2020 14:46

Beautiful name

Asiama · 06/06/2020 14:46

I like it tooSmile my preferred spelling is Maeve. If you live in England, it would be the most recognised spelling.

Sorry, can't help with boys names

Kokeshi123 · 06/06/2020 14:48

I always thought it was pronounced "Mav"--is this not correct?

arianwe · 06/06/2020 14:52

Love it!

iwilltaketwoplease · 06/06/2020 15:03

Lovely name.

SnowdropFox · 06/06/2020 15:04

Beautiful

strawberry2017 · 06/06/2020 15:06

Lovely name but I would spell it the English way if it was me.
Irish spellings are great if your Irish but very hard for anyone not Irish to know how to pronounce.

NC4Now · 06/06/2020 15:07

I adore it. Are you Irish, or have Irish heritage, or is it just a name you like?

Elouera · 06/06/2020 15:08

Sorry. I'm obviously against the grain here, but don't like it at all. The word sounds harsh and short. I also think of an old, poor woman!

If you love it though, I'd spell it Maeve.

namechangenumber2 · 06/06/2020 15:15

I wouldn't pronounce it like Dave though? I always thought it was more like Mow-ve? I could be wrong!

kenandbarbie · 06/06/2020 15:15

Lovely name!

How about:

Oisin
Cian
Donal

OchonAgusOchonO · 06/06/2020 15:24

I love the name but I dislike the Maeve spelling. Maedbh is my preferred spelling. I wouldn't be too concerned about the spelling as people get used to it quickly enough.

Boy's names:

How about:

Cillian
Oisín
Diarmuid
Tadgh
Cian
Rian
Fiadh
Fiachra
Darragh
Ruairí

turnthebiglightoff · 06/06/2020 15:28

Mow-ve Grin

OchonAgusOchonO · 06/06/2020 15:34

@namechangenumber2 - I always thought it was more like Mow-ve? I could be wrong!

Yes, you are Grin

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 06/06/2020 15:36

Queen Medb was an awesome woman with an excellent name. Maeve is probably the easiest spelling but all can be learned.

namechangenumber2 · 06/06/2020 15:37

Wow that's blown my mind! I've never known one, but sure I've only ever heard it with a longer ow sound in the middle! Grin

namechangenumber2 · 06/06/2020 15:43

Ah, realised I read it as the colour Mauve! 😂

Cotswoldmama · 06/06/2020 15:49

I don't like it to me it sounds like a shortened version of Mavis. And it rhymes with grave ( but that's me being weird, I don't like the name Daniel because it rhymes with spaniel).

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2020 15:53

I love Maeve, such a beautiful strong name.

One of my friends has a daughter whose version of the name is Meadhbh, which isn't the easiest spelling to get your tongue around if you don't speak any Irish.

sweetnosugar · 06/06/2020 15:55

I like it a lot!
Prefer the spelling Maeve.

iklboo · 06/06/2020 15:56

It's a beautiful name.
