Girls name like Shane

Hi folks

So I lost my dad in March, his name was Shane. I really want to honour his name for our little one who will be with us before not too long.. would do so as a middle name.

Easy is we have a boy. But what are your best suggestions for a girl alternative?? I've seen Shane/Shayne/Shana used as girl options, but not so keen....

If anyone has any others that we could consider, I'd be so grateful.

Previously we had chosen Arthur, Iris and Romey as our middle name options, named after grandparents.

I googled these and there are real women with these names so I didn’t make them up!

Another thought: could you use the letters of Shane to make a name from eg Nesha?

I would stick to Shane if it is a middle name, it’s growing on me.

Is there an Irish or Welsh connection? Sian if Welsh, Siobhan or Shawna if Irish? Shanie or Shaney sounds cute, like Janey? Or just Jane?

OP - Shane in the TV programne The L Word is the coolest character.

You can call her Shane. I know a girl Shane - she is really cool!

Personally I would go with Shane as a middle name. If you are having multiple middle names I would put it at the end.

It would rarely be used and not known to many, and if your daughter didn’t like it she could use her ‘girly’ middle name.

Just to throw something else into the mix...
How about Martha for a mn instead of Arthur for a boy?
It sounds as though it is maybe more your style than Shane?
Shane is not pretty and neither are the alternatives - but it's so lovely to have meaning behind a name.
I think if I was going to go with something Shane related I would pick Sian as the nicest option.
I would go for 2 middle names though - Olive Sian Iris Surname sounds lovely (though i still prefer Martha).

@Dontneedhomework - you are certainly very intuitive indeed!!! We actually weren't even keen on Shane for a boys middle name, let alone girl! But then I lost dad and that all immediately changed!

Arthur was my paternal grandpa so would be completely leaving dad out of the honour unfortunately 😪

We agree we like shaina (shay-na) and sinead, going to leave it until we meet little one before finally deciding.
