Girls name like Shane

Hi folks

So I lost my dad in March, his name was Shane. I really want to honour his name for our little one who will be with us before not too long.. would do so as a middle name.

Easy is we have a boy. But what are your best suggestions for a girl alternative?? I've seen Shane/Shayne/Shana used as girl options, but not so keen....

If anyone has any others that we could consider, I'd be so grateful.

Previously we had chosen Arthur, Iris and Romey as our middle name options, named after grandparents.

Thanks ever so much. Xx

TheFaerieQueene · 09/05/2020 18:39

Use Shane as a middle name.

HerRoyalPain · 09/05/2020 18:39

I know a Shaynie.

LizzieAnt · 09/05/2020 18:52

I'm Irish and have never heard of the name Shaelin, its origins are a bit of a mishmash I'd say?

LizzieAnt · 09/05/2020 18:58

As it's a middle name to honour your dad, I'd probably use Shane for a boy or a girl.

LizzieAnt · 09/05/2020 19:01

Sorry for your loss, and congratulations on your soon-to-be new arrival tooFlowers

Middle names can be anything. DD has a family name that isn't a first name at all, certainly not a 'girls' name. It's cool to have an out of the ordinary middle name.

Orphlids · 09/05/2020 19:05

Sorry about your dad. I hope you find some comfort in your new baby. Flowers I think it would be fine to go with Shane as a middle name for a girl. Or maybe change the name to make it look a little more feminine? Shaen? I used to work with a Shani (Shay-nee) and I loved her name.

Crystal87 · 09/05/2020 19:10

went to school with a Shaney. Not sure of the correct spelling.

daisypond · 09/05/2020 20:18

Shane is fine for a middle name.

mondler · 09/05/2020 20:42

Sorry for your loss op. We did this for my nan who passed. It was a bit easier as she was a Joan so we went Jonah as the middle and love that it was connects our DS to her.

I think Shane could work as a middle name for a girl plus there's already lots of lovely suggestions.

If you have your partners surname would your maiden name work or did your dad have a middle name? Flowers

MaMaMyCorona · 09/05/2020 20:44

Shannon?

123Dancewithme · 09/05/2020 20:53

Shayna / Shaina

JoHo8 · 09/05/2020 21:20

Thank you so much for your suggestions ladies!

Lots here to help discussion, am so grateful! Interesting to hear perspectives on using Shane for a girl.. will def have a play with it.

Our first name for a girl is likely to be Olive so may need to rethink that so it's not two 'short names' side by side... hmmm Hmm

Quite like shania but it makes me think of shania Twain who is not much to our musical taste Grin

@mondler sadly my maiden name is a strong surname that wouldn't work with our family surname. And dad's middle name was Arthur which was originally our boy middle name but would feel too far removed turning that into a girls name!

Thank you so much for your thoughts all!

If for a middle name I would keep it as Shane! Not to different sounding from Jayne. If you have a daughter she will love the name knowing who it was for
