Curious post - What names have you heard previously or if you heard them would make you go "wow" (in good way) or a name you'd think was simply sublime? Interested to hear your wow names

"Sacha" with a "ch" as in "loch", or "Sascha/Sasha", as in the short form of Alexander?

FeedMeSantiago · 07/05/2020 08:30

I knew a Valentina at school, her parents were Greek and Mum and I thought it was a gorgeous name. There was another girl at school called Anastasia, which I love too.

Recent names:
Eilidh
Cordelia
Ffion

Morven is gorgeous, never met one though.

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/05/2020 08:31

Neighbors DD is called Percy (full name Persephone). I thought it was lovely.

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/05/2020 08:36

Oh I love Lysander too

Taddda · 07/05/2020 08:36

Bane & bronson - wow what a pair of awful names, made even worse that there's two

Tom Hardy played both of them, very much a 'Wow' imo....and a 'ooooo' and an 'ahhhh'....Wink

Parsley1234 · 07/05/2020 09:19

I have a Sacha
Sasha tends to be a girl and Sascha tends to be Russian I think
@turnandfacethenamechange I love Lysander

bridgetreilly · 07/05/2020 09:20

I once knew a Hereward and I still think that's the coolest name ever.

missmouse101 · 07/05/2020 10:01

When I was 15, I met a baby girl called Phaedra and I adored it!

Twisique · 07/05/2020 10:12

Euphemia
Octavia
Antonia

Wolfric
Beowulf
Aldric

Fleamaker123 · 07/05/2020 10:38

Celestine is my girl wow name. I've only ever met one, well over 30 years ago so it was even more wow then!

MoneyForOldTurnips · 07/05/2020 12:56

I've always loved Madeleine, Genevieve and Arabella for girls. Malachi is my 'wow' boys name - wasn't brave though though to use for either of my children!

Grufallosfriends · 07/05/2020 15:14

I have a Sacha

No, the different spellings reflect different languages:

Sacha - French
Sascha - German
Sasha - Russian

They're generally boys names, short for Alexander.

Grufallosfriends · 07/05/2020 15:16

A wow name for me is Elon Musk's recent baby!

ravenmum · 07/05/2020 15:23

Balonz is a Surrey name, A12 is an Essex name. Maybe Elon is from Essex?

ravenmum · 07/05/2020 15:25

Oh, just read that Baby A12 isn't allowed to be called that after all.

rosecreakybex · 07/05/2020 15:32

Tiger

Taddda · 08/05/2020 20:19

Cheryl (is it still Cole?) choice of 'Bear Payne' made us go 'Wow'...

Round here that's something you say when you stub your toe...'Did it hurt?'...' 'Oh I was in 'Bear Payne'.....Confused

LoKiMummy · 08/05/2020 20:24

Annie for a girl. I just think it’s gorgeous. Alexander for a boy

Doodar · 08/05/2020 20:25

Gabriel

IdblowJonSnow · 08/05/2020 20:26

Good wow or bad wow? I once saw the name 'Gobnat' in my baby name book. I think its Irish? Perhaps it sounds beautiful in Gaelic but written down...

Taddda · 08/05/2020 21:08

I've tried saying 'Gobnat' in every accent in my head @IdblowJohnSnow - not one that doesn't sound like an insult, or a sentence that starts with 'shut yer face you.......'

(I REALLY hope no-one comes on now I says they've just named theirs that!)

FourPlasticRings · 08/05/2020 21:28

Cuthbert. An excellent young actor from a deprived inner-city area. I hope his name means his parents are very aspirational for him and he manages to pursue his acting.

DCIRozHuntley · 08/05/2020 21:55

@Taddda It's more like G-aah bneyt. St Gobnait's actually got a lovely story about healing the sick with honey, albeit lower key than many Saints stories but it's anglicized to Deborah. If you like the story I think you'd be more likely to go for Abigail which is another alternative name.
