Names that make you go "wow"?

Curious post - What names have you heard previously or if you heard them would make you go "wow" (in good way) or a name you'd think was simply sublime? Interested to hear your wow names

Pommeline! I heard it and thought it was just gorgeous, but the parents and baby area Dutch so it probably would work better there than in the UK.

@SingleHandSue I’m going with Lily-Kop.
Might be outing but I have a relative who is an Evertonian and named his daughter Evie Toni Ann Blush

Teaandbiscuitsallday · 06/05/2020 17:41

Rufus! Ugghhh. Sounds like a dog.

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 06/05/2020 17:53

Zara. What an amazing name! I wish I would be called that myself. My cousin has daughter and she is called that.

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 06/05/2020 17:56

@Spied
Dakota is beautiful name.
I was pregnant in 2015 and the baby if girl would be Dakota.
Sadly it did not happen.

I have a Valentina. She's 18 now, and forever complimented on her name, it suits her totally and I've never shortened it, I thought she may have got Tina at school but she didn't. I love it still.

Iamblossom · 06/05/2020 18:04

I know an Evangeline which i think is beautiful .

Also Petrea. Trea for short. Love it.

GreenTeaMug · 06/05/2020 18:13

My BF named her son Geoffrey. I was wow but not in a good way. Then I totally fell in love with it (and him because he is gorgeous). 2 years after Geoffrey (never shortened) was born my own DS1 was born. I named him a name that was similar in style / vintage to Geoffrey and people also were not wow in agood way. But then actually I have only had compliments with people saying how nice it is as it is so unusual nowadays. DS2 is top 20.

My name if I had a girl would be 'Leveret'. I love it. But it would be odd to have two fairly 'dull' boys names and then something a little out thereb like Leveret.

@Parsley1234
Sacha Valentine... How beautiful

GreenTeaMug · 06/05/2020 18:16

Valentina is gorgeous.

I also LOVE Hebe. Hebe was on my list for DS1.

L0bstersLass · 06/05/2020 18:17

Hugo.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/05/2020 18:17

Valentine was a favourite until I read Mortal Instruments!

I am a teacher so often think Wow at names, but one that sticks in my memory is Meadow.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 18:18

A name I heard recently on an elderly, very artistic lady - Corisande. That made me go wow. I’d never heard it before.

MrsEricBana · 06/05/2020 18:21

Valentine/Valentina

August - there's a boy at school called August Distinguishedsurname and I think it's fantastic!

Brock

Before all the Bear type names were a thing my grandfather had a friend called Wolf, which I thought was amazing. Presumably he was called Wolfgang?

Aurelia

Lostmyunicorn · 06/05/2020 18:21

A leveret is the correct term for a baby hare.

Crabbo · 06/05/2020 18:22

@MillicentMartha Oh Zephyr is my number one choice for my baby, I suspect I’m having another girl though... plus I’m not sure I’d be able to convince dh.

I used to work with a girl called Eno, I really love that.

Parsley1234 · 06/05/2020 18:23

@Fleamaker123 thank you ! It really suits him he’s dual heritage Anglo Indian although when I remember Xavi this week I wish I’d called him that 🤣

MrsEricBana · 06/05/2020 18:23

Isn't Leveret a baby hare?

GreenTeaMug · 06/05/2020 18:23

Oh August is lovely. It sounds soft whereas I think Augusta or Augustus are slightly more stern sounding.

MrsEricBana · 06/05/2020 18:25

There was a dachshund in the park the other day called Bernard. That was dog name goals.

MrsEricBana · 06/05/2020 18:26

GreenTeaMug Isn't it! This boy looks ever so slightly old fashioned and it is perfect for him.

ComeOnEileen11 · 06/05/2020 18:27

Elon musk's kid was a "wow, I can't believe that's even allowed to be registered!"

Gabriel
Caleb
Atticus
Abraham
Elijah
All these are "wow, if only I was brave enough to use those"

Evangeline - "wow that's pretty".

GreenTeaMug · 06/05/2020 18:28

years ago we were in the aprk and there wss this gorgeous liver-coloured spaniel,.

My dad asked the little boy (aged maybe 9) who was holding his lead what the dog's name was and the little boy said earnestly; 'His name is Gordon Brown and we are delighted with him'.

It was one of the most charming things I have ever heard. The little boy was just so gorgeous.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 18:34

Remember hearing Olympe and thinking wow... however, only in a French accent.

DerekMorganswife · 06/05/2020 18:52

Aurelia
Aurora
Olympia
Ophelia

Unfortunately our last name ends with an 'a' sound so we couldn't have any of them. Gorgeous names though.

For boys I loved:
Emerson
Raffety
Malachi
Cillian

We did end up choosing one of these!
