Hi , I would like to see honest feedbacks on boy name Archer.

I very like meaning of strong, and hope baby can grow with strong mind.

But feel it is a little weird and un-usual, implying occupation. Also feel worried about teasing by other kids in future , making fun of him by shooting

I love it and it doesn't conjure up images of actual archers for me.

Onekidnoclue · 04/05/2020 10:16

Archie as a nickname. I think it’s nice. Definitely not the weirdest I’ve heard in the last week!
Not my taste but I don’t think it’s “out there” or likely to encourage bullying.

zscaler · 04/05/2020 10:20

Do you mean Archer? If so I think it’s ok and I like Archie as a nickname.

If it’s Acher then it doesn’t have positive connotations to me - ache / aching etc!

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 10:20

Thanks, I am also worried about people thinking it from archer episode, even though I did not see that episode before

Sort of name that is not common, but not out of place.

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 10:22

Sorry for typo, it is archer .

Is it good to use occupational name?

I'm not keen on it. I think it's quite harsh sounding. Archie has been super popular here in NZ.

Victoria6386 · 04/05/2020 10:30

All i can think of is the archers on radio 4..

Whatsyourflava · 04/05/2020 10:34

Archer is a great name (think you misspelt it in thread title as Acher so people may be commenting on the name Acher)
Archer wouldn't sound out of place at all these days. Honestly no one will bat an eyelid. I laugh at the names I was worried about now. There's 2 Fox's at our local school. 1 Wolf. All sorts of names. No one will think Archer is off the wall, it sounds very much in keeping with a lot of names these days.

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 10:35

@Victoria6386
Means not keen by you ? :-)

Not great associations jump up here. Either the dreary R4 soap or the adult cartoon spring to mind!

ArnoldBee · 04/05/2020 10:36

Are you Meghan?

Whatsyourflava · 04/05/2020 10:37

Sadly you can never predict what names will be the target of bullying. 2 Girls with surnames Cockam and Pratt was left alone at our school, never mentioned. Yet "Abbey" was constantly called Abbey National Bank and teased endlessly. If someone's going to get bullied, they'll get bullied sadly. It's very horrible but you'll never find a name that guarantees no bullying

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 10:38

@Whatsyourflava thanks

Will you connect archer as occupation?

There’s a tv show called Archer. It’s really good actually! The main character Archer can be a bit of an idiot sometimes but it doesn’t put me off the name. It grew on me whilst watching.

AmelieTaylor · 04/05/2020 10:41

Sorry, not keen. Not keen on the 'occupation' thing, but also not keen on the sound.

Like Archie - but would just use that.

However, it's your baby & you get to choose, so if you like it, you should use it. I very much doubt it'll be the most unusual name in the school -unless you live in the arse end of nowhere & even then...

Best wishes for his safe arrival & some photos never go amiss 😊

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 10:41

@Whatsyourflava thanks for your honest feedback

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 10:44

@AmelieTaylor could you explain more about sound ?

My wife choose it because of sound . Looks we miss something here

Thanks

Many people mentioned Archie. Thanks a lot , we skip it because it has same name as UK prince. :-)

Definetly watch the TV show "archer" first to see if you want that association. It's a great show but the eponymous character is... an anti hero to say the least.

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 04/05/2020 10:48

Not keen.
It’s not absolutely dreadful though.

I know of one Archer who is about 3.

Whatsyourflava · 04/05/2020 10:50

No I wouldn't really connect Archer the occupation. I don't think it would occur to me. If it did it would be fleeting. It just sounds like a name to me.

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 10:51

Thanks @ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings and @Canyoutellilikrchocolate

My DGF was Archie way before some royal wannabes😀 I like Archer but not Acher.

GatoFofo · 04/05/2020 11:05

Love it, I used to work with a guy called Archer.
