Need a honest option on Acher as boy name

Hi , I would like to see honest feedbacks on boy name Archer.

I very like meaning of strong, and hope baby can grow with strong mind.

But feel it is a little weird and un-usual, implying occupation. Also feel worried about teasing by other kids in future , making fun of him by shooting

I know 2 Archers, both are around 3/4 now I love it and much prefer it to Archie

SoftBlocks · 04/05/2020 11:10

Adult cartoon.

Thefaceofboe · 04/05/2020 11:20

I love Archer and is on our list. We mainly like it as we like Archie but it’s so common now

MinorArcana · 04/05/2020 12:19

I would connect Archer with the occupation, but that’s not something I’d be worried about. It’s not exactly a common occupation these days is it?

I’d think of Archer more as a surname type of name, and there’s plenty of kids around with that sort of name. A name like Archer wouldn’t sound unusual or out of place.

Mumma4262 · 04/05/2020 12:56

I really like it. It was going to be this baby’s middle name but we are having a girl.

Not keen on Archie as a nickname though.

pilates · 04/05/2020 13:00

Sorry not keen

WilheldivaHater · 04/05/2020 13:08

I know three Archers all under two, so it doesn't strike me as an unusual name at all. I also know a couple of baby Hunters so, in my area at least, these type of occupational/ surname type names seems to be increasing in popularity.

MikeUniformMike · 04/05/2020 13:15

Acher is better. I don't like Archie much. Archer is a surname.

Arch isn't a very nice adjective.

Orphlids · 04/05/2020 13:26

I like Archer. There is one at my daughter’s school. I’ve never thought about the occupation at all. I must admit it made me think about The Archers on Radio 4, but that to me is a positive association! I don’t think it’s that uncommon either now. I think we will be seeing quite a few Archers in the near future.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 04/05/2020 14:04

I like Archer. It's unusual but not silly. Can see him in a classroom with Theo and Jack.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 04/05/2020 14:04

I think it’s fine. Although I’m not a fan of Surnames as First names.

Fifthtimelucky · 04/05/2020 14:13

I know a couple of people (not related to each other) whose surnames are Archer, so it's very much a typical occupation surname for me, like Miller, Smith, Fletcher, Thatcher and Cooper.

Personally I don't like surnames used as first names. It seems to be a trend and I suspect that, like most trends, it will date quite quickly.

Pemba · 04/05/2020 14:42

I don't in general like surnames used as first names, and occupational ones like Archer, Hunter, Carter, Cooper etc are particularly daft IMO. Archie is OK.

BabyDust13 · 04/05/2020 14:43

I love it it's at the top of my list 😍

Alwaysthesun · 04/05/2020 14:50

Soeey I think it's a bit pretentious. Sorry 😐, not meaning to be rude x

Yangpeng · 04/05/2020 15:26

Thanks all great feedbacks.

Do you think this name is easier to get bully by kids? We are Asian immigrants, and really would like kid to be connected with other kids, and he will not be felt isolated

OP posts:
MinorArcana · 04/05/2020 15:39

I don’t think it’s a name that would cause bullying.

Ughmaybenot · 04/05/2020 15:41

I don’t mind it actually. I know a gorgeous pair of brothers called Archer and Harrison, so I am a little biased.
I also know a Hunter and a Fletcher. These sorts of names are getting more popular I think.

Whatsyourflava · 04/05/2020 15:48

Honestly the name will sit fine with all the Archie Arthur and Alberts in the class. It sounds totally conventional. If you want the saftest name possible then go for the number 1 name of Oliver but that won't guarantee no bullying sadly. I'd say an Oliver or an Archer are equally likely to get bullied in reality

Spark27 · 04/05/2020 16:02

I like the name Archer with the nn Archie. If ours ends up being a boy it could be on the shortlist

LudaMusser · 04/05/2020 16:12

Nobody except you will call him Archer though, he'll be called Arch

If a name can be shortened, it will be

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 04/05/2020 16:19

@LudaMusser That's a load of rubbish. I have an oft shortened name, so did two of my sisters....no one has ever called us any nicknames or shorter versions of our names.

MikeUniformMike · 04/05/2020 16:32

I agree with @LudaMusser.
It will be shortened.

littlemeitslyn · 04/05/2020 18:48

Brimful of asha

Cbeebiesrehab · 04/05/2020 19:46

Don’t worry about bullying, OP. I’ve been a teacher for many years in some tough schools and very few children give a fig what other kids are called. If they do want to pick on them however, an average name like William is just as likely as a more out there one. Saying that, Archer is quite an ordinary name to me and will probably become Archie. If you like it, go for it.
