Hi , I would like to see honest feedbacks on boy name Archer.

I very like meaning of strong, and hope baby can grow with strong mind.

But feel it is a little weird and un-usual, implying occupation. Also feel worried about teasing by other kids in future , making fun of him by shooting

We met a little archer recently.
Age about 4?
Seems like a solid name to have archie for a nickname.
I like it

I don't have a strong opinion either way but I'd say you'll need to like Archie as well as I imagine that's what people will end up calling him!

Meltedwellie · 04/05/2020 19:59

I think it’s awful. It’s a no from me but if you like it nothing to stop you.

Brownyblonde · 04/05/2020 20:02

I like it Smile

HelloItsmeAgain1 · 04/05/2020 20:18

It's great! More interesting than both Archie and Arthur but still easy to say and doesn't sound odd.

India999 · 04/05/2020 20:22

There's a netflix animated comedy called Archer (main character) - it reminds me of that but still like it!

LochJessMonster · 04/05/2020 21:00

I like it. I know big called Archer and think it’s a nice name.
Not too common, not too out there.

tenlittlecygnets · 04/05/2020 21:07

I like it! Nice strong name, easy to pronounce and spell.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/05/2020 21:11

I like it, but would worry about it being shortened to Archie which I really don't like

Yangpeng · 05/05/2020 03:37

thanks all great feedback

It’s fine. Not too out there, sounds quite “of the moment” so not out of place amongst all the other names currently common.

It wouldn’t really bring up any other connotations for me and don’t think you’d need to worry about teasing to be honest.

I think it would also age well

funmummy48 · 05/05/2020 07:02

I’m not keen....it conjures up images of men in tights for me. 😳

lockdownstress · 05/05/2020 07:04

Everyone will call him archie. If you don't want it abbreviated, don't use it.

lastburritos · 05/05/2020 07:05

I like the name Archer. But am not keen on Archie, either as a full name or a nickname. But Archer is great.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2020 07:48

I like Archer, but there are little Archies is all over the place.

zigaziga · 05/05/2020 08:52

I really dislike Archie.

Alfie, Archie, Teddy etc are all just so twee.

Archer is better but will likely become Archie I guess.

Tarararara · 05/05/2020 09:19

Archer is completely fine in terms of bullying. It is not a name a kid would be bullied for, so please put that consideration aside. The popularity of Archie means Archer wouldn't be seen as a weird or unusual name, and I don't think most kids would make the link with occupation (and even if they did, it's a pretty cool occupation from a kid's point of view!). So on a bullying scale, it's pretty much as trouble-free as you can find.

In terms of other considerations, it's a nice, strong, and I would say middle class name. Its slightly unusual, but not at all wacky, or 'try-hard'. I can imagine a baby, a child and an adult with the name, and it wouldn't hold them back occupation wise - it's a name you would not be surprised to see in all types of jobs. It's a really good choice!

Brownyblonde · 05/05/2020 09:19

@zig I hate names like archie Alfie evie Teddy too. I do really like archer though

SarahTTCx · 06/05/2020 14:57

Archer is one of my all time favourite boys names! It's so strong and handsome sounding but also has the option for the nn Archie for a little one! It's different without being crazy!

BabyDust13 · 06/05/2020 15:13

@SarahTTCx my thoughts exactly

Dozer · 06/05/2020 15:14

Dislike.

Dozer · 06/05/2020 15:14

Think because it’s “macho” and essentially means “soldier”.
