Thoughts on Delta

donutsatnight · 30/04/2020 18:09

I am not expecting but a huge fan of baby names and frankly during this quarantine is really a good way to pass time.

I really like the name Delta and it actually holds some meaning to me personally and just wanted to hear what you think of it and these middle name combos. I'd like a normal/common middle to be used as a backup

Delta Caroline
Delta Olivia
Delta Alexandra

Thoughts on it or any other middle names you feel would be a good match? Also I don't live in the US so Delta Airlines is not a big thing here Smile

Shit. Wrong thread sorry!

averytiredmom · 30/04/2020 18:44

Maybe as a middle name

Throughabushbackwards · 30/04/2020 18:45

Airline

Poodles03 · 30/04/2020 18:48

JetBlue is an airline too.

Sounds like something some dipshit celeb would think is amazing.

ofwarren · 30/04/2020 18:51

I was flicking through the app quickly and saw the title of this post and straight away assumed it was about the airline.
I'm in the UK.

Pigeonpresent · 30/04/2020 18:51

Please do not name your imaginary baby Delta, think about when she grows up and goes to imaginary school Grin

Polkadotdelight · 30/04/2020 18:53

I automatically thought of a raptor in Jurassic World - mother of a Dino crazy 5 year old here!

Cyclewidow46 · 30/04/2020 18:59

Thought of the airline immediately and I'm in the UK

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/04/2020 19:00

The academy my sons school belongs to is called Delta..so no.

thequeenbeyondthewall · 30/04/2020 19:08

It's the taxi firm by mine op

HopeClearwater · 30/04/2020 19:14

Terrible

Also thought of the taxi firm, very well known indeed in part of England!

Pomegranatemolasses · 30/04/2020 19:16

Don't like it at all. What about Delia?

KizzyWayfarer · 30/04/2020 19:17

My thoughts on Delta - Greek letter used a lot in maths, Delta Force in the US army, the phonetic alphabet. I’ve never come across it as a name, but if asked to guess I’d think boy’s name - for me it has a bit of an armed forces vibe.

JKScot4 · 30/04/2020 19:17

Airlines and not a good one
Town in Canada

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/04/2020 19:19

I think it's pretty and the airline wasn't the first thing that came to mind with me, but that wouldn't bother me anyway. I know plenty of girls named Alexa for example, which is very linked to the amazon device but it doesn't seem to be an issue

pinkpinecone · 30/04/2020 19:24

It makes me think of the Airline or a river delta I'm afraid

ArbitraryNameChange · 30/04/2020 19:24

My first thought was of a salted potato snack thing from M&S in the 80s.

I guess I'm the only one?

PlanDeRaccordement · 30/04/2020 19:24

I thought of the mathematical delta when I read the name. It’s alright. She’d have the Ancient Greek letter that she could write as a symbol for her name.

I have come across stranger math names like Epsilon. And some children named after computer languages- cobalt, Perl etc.

I think if you go with Delta, you should have the middle names to match. Say, instead of Caroline, go with Coraline

donutsatnight · 30/04/2020 19:26

Thank you to everyone for your inputs! I am aware of the connection to the airline which is one of the only things that puts me off from using the name. I do work in a geography related field and the use of the NATO alphabet is almost an everyday thing plus other connections I have with the name.

I do appreciate everyone's comments on it so will definitely give it a second thought before choosing it as a first, perhaps could work as a middle (?)

Would be awful if they ever moved to Liverpool 😂

Wheresthebiffer2 · 30/04/2020 19:31

Delta - as in the airline?

Or Delta the geographical river feature?

How about Deborah instead?

Madwife123 · 30/04/2020 19:36

Only if you name your other children Alpha, Beta and so on 🤣

daisypond · 30/04/2020 19:46

My first thought was the classic Brave New World, where people are graded according to intelligence and physical capacity. The deltas are second bottom.

Longdistance · 30/04/2020 19:50

Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Oscar...

Phonetic alphabet.

eddiemairswife · 30/04/2020 19:53

I suppose if it was your 4th child and the older ones were Alpha, Beta and Gamma.
