Hi all! Me again!! 😅

I'm going to keep these threads coming until we find a baby name unfortunately 😅

Thoughts on the name Lorelei?

I like asking for an outsiders opinion as it highlights points about the name myself & hubby wouldn't have thought of!

Thanks again!! ☺️

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NeedToKnow101 · 16/04/2020 16:22

I still love it!!!! (Been on here about 3 times now)

myself2020 · 16/04/2020 16:24

Only if you never want your child to visit france/germany.
its also a character who committed suicide over loosing her lover, so i don’t think its appropriate

pallasathena · 16/04/2020 16:27

Sounds like a shampoo...

myself2020 · 16/04/2020 16:27

You basically naming her after continental europe’s most famous victim of suicide.... i would avoid at all costs

Grandmi · 16/04/2020 16:30

Not for me .

tiredanddangerous · 16/04/2020 16:33

I wouldn’t because I live in the midlands. It’d sound dreadful with a Birmingham accent.

myself2020 · 16/04/2020 16:35

Just asked my husband what he would think about the name. answer was “suicide girl turned mass murderess. a lot to live up to for a baby”
so definitely only a name if you want her to stay (very) local.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 16/04/2020 16:41

Reminds me of the Gilmore Girls. But I quite like it

ScarfLadysBag · 16/04/2020 16:43

@myself2020 She can't be that famous. I can't find anything on Google that matches that!

SallyWD · 16/04/2020 16:45

I'm not keen. Sounds a bit silly.

Troels · 16/04/2020 16:55

I like it.
Reminds me of Gilmore girls too.

myself2020 · 16/04/2020 16:58

@ScarfLadysBag havea look in wikipedia. every german, french, swiss, dutch child will know.

nellythenarwhal · 16/04/2020 16:59

Makes me think of Gilmore Girls. I wouldn't use the name if I was called Emily as Emily and Lorelai have an awful mother-daughter relationship. Lorelai as a character is very self-centred and pouty so I would be kicking myself for using the name each time my dd was "difficult"

Nonnymum · 16/04/2020 17:02

Sorry I'm not keen.it doesn't sound like a name that I could imagine on a mature woman.
It also sounds iike a name for a southern USA belle, the sort of name you would get in Gone with the Wind or a Tennesse Williams play.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 16/04/2020 17:03

It's the name of a villainess in Superman 3!

Mind you, by the time she grows up, anyone who remembers that film will be long gone.

Blackopal · 16/04/2020 18:09

Interesting comments about never visiting Germany.
My daughter's dad's family are German. They like it!

Lynda07 · 16/04/2020 18:10

"Lorelei (aka Loreley) is legendary German mermaid, who was created by Clemens Brentano in 1801. The story went like that: A beautiful maiden named Lorelei who waited for her lover on a rock at the narrowest and shallowest point of the Rhine River."

Lynda07 · 16/04/2020 18:23

This is my friend Lorelei, she is the one on the left (slimmer than her sis), who starts the singing:

BurneyFanny · 16/04/2020 18:44

Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten...

RuffleCrow · 16/04/2020 18:46

Absolutely love it! But then I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan and i'd assume you were too if I met you.

RuffleCrow · 16/04/2020 18:50

Funny you should say that, @Nonnymum. In Gilmore Girls, when one of the Loreleis starts at a posh private school, that's exactly the issue the snobby girls there have with it.

"It sounds a bit... southern." Grin

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/04/2020 18:52

I think it's lovely.

TooGood2BeTrue · 16/04/2020 18:52

Lynda07 Heinrich Heine actually. I'm German and think it's an odd name; have certainly never met another German person with this name.

Amotherof6 · 16/04/2020 18:53

Lorelei .... personally I don't like it.

How is it pronounced? Lorry Lee or Lorry Lay ?

nellythenarwhal · 16/04/2020 18:54

Lor uh lie
