Hi all! Me again!! 😅

I'm going to keep these threads coming until we find a baby name unfortunately 😅

Thoughts on the name Lorelei?

I like asking for an outsiders opinion as it highlights points about the name myself & hubby wouldn't have thought of!

Thanks again!! ☺️

It's pronounced Laurel Eye.

FoolsAssassin · 08/04/2020 21:14

I have gone past the rock many times so even though I have watched Gilmore Girls it will always be linked to a rock and siren story for me.

babynamelover · 08/04/2020 22:09

It's a very strong name, not one I would personally use but it's okay. I don't think it's particularly fresh or modern though if that's important to you.

neighbourhoodwitch · 08/04/2020 22:13

Beautiful

Omashu · 08/04/2020 22:27

Love Gilmore girls and LOVE Lorelai. I’d never use it myself but it’s beautiful.

bitheby · 08/04/2020 22:35

I know an adult Lorelei and really like it.

Staffori · 08/04/2020 22:46

I think it's pretty and unusual. Sounds kind of American to me.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 08/04/2020 22:48

Because I'm worth it.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2020 22:50

I like the name, and it was what I wanted to call DD, but the Lorelei of German legend are horrible, and that put me off.

MilkNoSugars · 08/04/2020 22:51

Like it!

Also like Laurel as mentioned up-thread.

Luaa · 08/04/2020 22:58

We have a Lorelai, Lolly for short, so I like it 😁

Iris243 · 08/04/2020 23:02

I do actually like Gilmore Girls but think Lorelai is a complete narcissistic so it ruins the name for me.

And Rory turned out even worse!

I like Loretta, Lorrie, or Lottie.

HotMess21 · 08/04/2020 23:07

Lorelei is beautiful. A PP mentioned that it's the name of a Cocteau Twins song (from the album "Treasure". All the songs are exquisite names, e.g. Pandora, Cicely, Persephone, if you need further inspiration).

Custardcreamies101 · 08/04/2020 23:07

I’ve always liked the name when I heard it in Gilmore girls. It sounds much nicer with an American accent though!

Tillygetsit · 08/04/2020 23:22

I'm sorry OP but I really dislike it. Sounds heavy and sad to me and I don't like the lie ending.

limebedding · 08/04/2020 23:30

Before op clarified the pronunciation, and having never heard of it before, I thought it was a lee ending.

Which made me think of Laurie Lee.

Which made me think of Cider with Rosie.

Which made me think, 'Rosie is a nice name'.

Those were my thoughts.

Astronica · 09/04/2020 01:19

It seems fussy, and I would have to get over my initial assumption that a Lorelei would be a bit silly.

Lynda07 · 09/04/2020 01:28

Beautiful name! I know a lovely lady called Lorelei and she is - guess what - a singer. It's almost as if her mother knew she would be musical when she named her that.

Apart the music link, it is a smashing name. She can be called Lori for short.

Misbeehived · 09/04/2020 05:41

Gentleman Prefer Blondes. Love the name love the film!

Slyfox69 · 09/04/2020 05:46

Thats my daughters name.

MyOtherProfile · 09/04/2020 05:51

Very nice. I've been to the rock Lorelei in Germany. Not a bad connection.

It's pronounced Laurel Eye.
This. Which actually made me think I prefer the name Laurel as it's a bit less fussy.

Never seen the Gilmore girls so wouldn't conenct it with that.

Funtcase95 · 09/04/2020 06:36

I say it in a Dudley accent and I have no idea why. If you like it, go for it!

tallah · 09/04/2020 07:25

My friend has it for her girl, it's so pretty

helpmum2003 · 09/04/2020 07:34

It's pretty, i wouldn't use it personally because of spelling /pronunciation issues.

Lara?
Natalie?
Leila?

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 09/04/2020 07:38

It's ok but a bit of a mouthful. Would you shorten it?
