I have a boy called Sebastian and 'Id love to call my girl Isabelle. Would you automatically think of Belle and Sebastian; either the cartoon or the band? My husband is not a big music fan or knows the cartoon but can't help thinking people might think I'm a mega fan. 😂 I enjoyed their music in my youth.

Sorry not heard of cartoon or band

I’m in my 30s if that helps

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/02/2020 17:45
Grin

I would assume you were fans, but I think its cool

Balkinfly · 22/02/2020 17:45

Band

Alocasia · 22/02/2020 17:46

I’d think of you must be a fan of the band. But I remember the cartoon as well, it was great!

villamariavintrapp · 22/02/2020 17:47

Hmm not necessarily-especially if they had different shortenings, and you'd probably say sebastian's name first as the eldest..?

Milosinthebox · 22/02/2020 17:47

I'd definitely think of the band if you used Belle as a nn, but not if you used Bella.

SwedishEdith · 22/02/2020 17:47

I'd think of the black and white Belgian tv programme dubbed into English.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/02/2020 17:48

I would think of the band.

Whatsyourflava · 22/02/2020 17:49

Lovely names by the way

I probably would if you girl was older but this way round, probably not

GatoFofo · 22/02/2020 17:50

I’d immediately think of the band!

StormDenise · 22/02/2020 17:51

I'd definitely think of the band!

Lovely names though!

glitterbiscuits · 22/02/2020 17:51

Yes! Boy with the Arab Strap!

AliasGrape · 22/02/2020 17:52

If you told me your children were called Belle
and Sebastian I’d think of the band and maybe think you were big fans.

If you said Isabelle and Sebastian I’d probably still hear it but not think it was deliberate.

If you said Sebastian and Isabelle in that order I doubt I’d make the connection, and even less likely if you were talking about Seb and Bella or Basty and Izzy or whatever other variations you might choose!

OhTheTastyNuts · 22/02/2020 17:53

I'd think of the band, but not in a bad way! If you said Sebastian and Belle then it probably wouldn't click at all. I'm in my 40s.

SuddenArborealStop · 22/02/2020 17:53

I would think band but then I'd think but they're nice names that go well together

myrtleWilson · 22/02/2020 17:57

I'd hum a bit then break into a lusty bellow of "Lets see your kit for games, all the girls look the same. you are challenging style for running miles. You're running miles in some boy's jumper"

But I'm a fan so I'd adore the little B&S....

As an aside did anyone attend the Boaty Weekender?

Janaih · 22/02/2020 18:02

I know a Belle and Sebastian (not named after the band though). Most people dont get the reference, those that do (90s indie kids) think it's cool.

overthinkingismymiddlename · 22/02/2020 18:19

Isabelle is a family name and I'd love to honour it. My husband chose Sebastian.

Love both names. Loved the cartoon. Love the band. Go for it. Just don't be shouting Belle and Sebastian in for their dinner. 😁

overthinkingismymiddlename · 22/02/2020 18:24

It wouldn't be named after the band. Just love the names really.

Lovely names, never heard of band or cartoon.

overthinkingismymiddlename · 22/02/2020 18:26

@myrtleWilson

No but I went to the original Camper Sands back in 1999 and what fun it was! An immense weekend.

I met brothers called Sonny and Shale which made me laugh far more than it should have done.

Belle and Sebastian isn't as funny as that because they're nice names, but it would definitely make me go 'huh, like the band'.
