Do you still love it?

Just that.

Do you still love your childrens names?
Some of my children are much older than others!

DD1 very much a name of its time (think 3 in one class)
DD2 a name as old as time almost that seems to never quite go away
DS The only name I really liked I couldn't have for rhyming reasons so had what I could shorten to it! Tragically born sleeping so never even got to yell it up the stairs at teatime :(
DD3 A name that is always commented on - often with a look of surprise but mostly with a quick warming to it. Rare - Knew one other 25 years ago and never heard another since. But not particularly odd. Only one in a school of 2500

Yes although my 2 are still small - ds1 is 2 and ds2 is 4 months. I love ds1's name; it is increasing in popularity and heading for the top 20 but I don't mind that really. I did see it mentioned on mn the other day as 'downmarket' though which I'm not sure I agree with! Ds2 has a very unusual name; we weren't trying to be "unique", it was genuinely a name that we came across and loved. I hope ds2 likes it when he's older but if not his mn is Charles so he could always go by Charlie if he prefers!

I’m trying to guess your kids names now!

So sorry for the loss of your son Flowers

Theresnoroomonmybroom · 18/02/2020 17:29

I never really liked dds name but she’s adopted and I was asked to change it quickly with no notice. I chose her middle name and have grown to love it though would never ever have chosen it in the first place.

myplateisfullenoughthanks · 18/02/2020 17:33

@BabloHoney guess away

and thank you

My DCs are in their 20s and I still love their names - and them, of course!

Calixtine · 18/02/2020 17:46

Still love them all! I also love the ones that got away though!

How old are your children and I’ll try to guess Wink

Sorry to read about your son.
I still love the names I gave the DC and would still use the names if they were born now.
Both were one of several with the name, but the names haven't dated badly.

Hellhath · 18/02/2020 18:07

DS1 - he is 40 and I love his name, it wasnt common when we chose it, and still isnt. I regret not giving him the 'full' version on his bc to ex Hs objection.
DD1 - age 38, very of it's time and widely used. It instantly dates her to that time.
DS2 - before the time of scans, I was totally convinced he was a girl and we hastily chose a classic but boring boys name when he was born. I dont like it now, wasnt in love with it then.
DD2 - love love love it. Classic, beautiful, has a middle name that I love equally then a third name for a relative who died the week she was born. All 3 sound lovely together.
DD3 - classic, not used much nowadays, it was the third name we tried for her and it suits her. Middle name also classic and third name is my mums maiden name. They are a bit clunky together.

My dc are teenagers now.

DD1's name was one I absolutely adored and had planned since before I got pregnant.

DD2's name was a compromise because we'd used up our favourite name and couldn't agree on another we both loved.

Both DC are known by nicknames of their choosing. Ironically, it's DD2s name / nickname I love more. If I was to choose names again, it would be DD1s name I'd change.

But I like both their chosen names.

Hellhath · 18/02/2020 18:11

At a guess I would say a lot of girls now in their 30s are Rachel, Rebecca, Victoria, Emily, Hayley, Sarah.....

BecauseReasons · 18/02/2020 18:13

I never loved the name I gave DD, but compromises had to be made, so 🤷.

It's alright. It's her name now, so doesn't matter.

mamaduckbone · 18/02/2020 18:14

Yes I do, but sometimes wish we'd gone for slightly more original / unusual names.

MummySharn · 18/02/2020 18:14

I love both my kids names, they’re very popular but they just work

cheesefries · 18/02/2020 18:17

Yes, I love both but they're only 2 and 1 so who knows in several years! Both are quite unusual and never come across another of their name in real life.

So sorry for the loss of your son.

confusedandemployed · 18/02/2020 18:20

I love DD's name. She's nearly 7 and it's still commented upon. It's not weird, but it isn't much used.

FairfaxAikman · 18/02/2020 18:26

DS is two. His name is a classic but less usual for a younger child.

I always loved it but it was my second choice (DH vetoed first) but now I've gone off my first choice to a degree.

Roselilly36 · 18/02/2020 18:31

So sorry for your loss OP Flowers

I love both of my DS’s names, DS1 has a fairly unusual name for the UK, DS2 has a classic name, they both suit their names. No regrets about with the name choices we made.

Peachypips78 · 18/02/2020 18:32

I really want to know everyone's names!

I still love my names. DS1 (12) is Zachary and DS2 (9) is Charlie. Thought Zach was going to soar in popularity but seems to have remained in the middle somewhere. Charlie is very common but it suits him down to the ground- he's a proper cheeky Charlie.

I regret slightly not using Soren. Still love it but my OH put his foot down!

BabloHoney · 18/02/2020 18:37

OP I would guess your older daughters are Chloe and Alice?

I have 2 boys, one Scottish name and one Irish, neither are common but neither are weird / out there, I absolutely love both their names.

Ikeameatballs · 18/02/2020 18:43

My guess for OP’s eldest two are Laura and Emma.

inicecoldblood · 18/02/2020 18:47

DS1 I still love his name, DS2 I wish I could change as way to common now and DD has a classic name I still like.
