Do you still love it?

Just that.

Do you still love your childrens names?
Some of my children are much older than others!

DD1 very much a name of its time (think 3 in one class)
DD2 a name as old as time almost that seems to never quite go away
DS The only name I really liked I couldn't have for rhyming reasons so had what I could shorten to it! Tragically born sleeping so never even got to yell it up the stairs at teatime :(
DD3 A name that is always commented on - often with a look of surprise but mostly with a quick warming to it. Rare - Knew one other 25 years ago and never heard another since. But not particularly odd. Only one in a school of 2500

Oh myplate interesting, it's killing me Grin

bablo that is the best Irish name, I love it but sadly common here. Glad it wasn't Ulick either

Nope it's not Justin, but he could either 'entertain' you be a 'troublemaker' Grin

OrchidJewel · 18/02/2020 21:41

Annableday1 Lily is a beautiful name. What would call her now if you could?.

Anappleaday1 · 18/02/2020 21:49

Thank you @OrchidJewel I do think if I didn't read name threads I would probably still love it, I guess top 10 names are repeatedly seen as boring which perhaps has taken the shine away. I don't know what I'd call her now - at the time she was nearly an Alice which I still love. I think I would probably go for something a bit 'stronger', Alexandra is one of my favourites at the moment.

missmouse101 · 18/02/2020 21:56

Daughter is 19 and I have sadly gone completely off her name. I so wish we'd given her a different one. Sad Son's is ok but there are others I prefer. Sad

bibbetybobbityhat · 18/02/2020 22:05

My daughter's name always used to remind me of literally the worst few years of my life (abusive ex, he said I could 'choose' her name... but he would forever hold it against me if I chose what I chose etc etc), but now it's 'her' and it's 'her' name. He never offered alternatives by the way, and made it a big deal that I 'chose' ugh. Wanker. I didn't choose, I wanted a completely different name.

However, I do love it, even if no-one can pronounce it, despite a fairly recent storm being named it...

OrchidJewel · 18/02/2020 22:05

anapple I get that, my dds name is Emily, it totally suits her, especially with our surname but there are so many out there names I think oh could I have been braver, every other girls name in the class ends in a an 'A' Grin Alexandra is gorgeous too

bibbetybobbityhat · 18/02/2020 22:06

I hasten to add, her name is not 'ugh'!!!

OrchidJewel · 18/02/2020 22:28

Oh Bibbety, thats awfull, couldn't imagine that tbh. I'm thinking of storm names,. Emma or Ophelia? It's not Dennis Grin

bibbetybobbityhat · 18/02/2020 22:33

Haha no, it's not Dennis Smile

CoodleMoodle · 18/02/2020 22:40

@myplateisfullenoughthanks

Nope, DS isn't a Ewan. Character rather than actor. It's in the most famous SW quote (I think), which is probably one of the most famous film quotes ever!

bibbetybobbityhat · 18/02/2020 22:45

@OrchidJewel Emily is beautiful by the way...

IdleLiz · 18/02/2020 22:47

DD in her 20s and I still love her name.

It's gone from around 180th to 600th on the list.

TheVanguardSix · 18/02/2020 22:47

Oh how heartbreaking to read "never even got to yell it up the stairs at teatime." Flowers
I love my kids' names. Though my eldest, born in 2002, was named 'an old man's name' hardly ever heard. Now everyone's a Theo(dore). Still, throughout school, from primary to Sixth Form, he's been the only Theo, apart from year 7 when there was one other Theo who moved away by year 8.
DD has an Old Testament name that nobody ever uses. You just don't hear it. DS2 has a Scottish name. Again, one nobody will ever know or use because it's in 'Derek' territory. I love their names.

TheFutureIs · 18/02/2020 22:59

I adore my 3 year olds name. People either haven't met anyone with the same (32 others in her birth year) or it was their grannies/mums name.
It's classic without being old fashioned. She was named after an amazing scientist.

username1724 · 18/02/2020 23:21

Dd is Ava and I adore it. I feel like it's pretty, solid and suits her so much. I heard it when I was pregnant for the first time and got butterflies, just felt right in every way. Really not fussed about its popularity, I love that so many others love it like I do.
Ds has a very unusual (and outing) name. It's from his dads heritage but I absolutely love it. It's not very common in the UK but he just suits it, i love the sound of it and it just clicked for me as soon as I came across it. I suggested it to OH who said it had always been one of his favourites.

schafernaker · 18/02/2020 23:59

DDs name wouldnt have been my first (or second) choice DH picked it (I had the choice if she was to have been a boy). But she has grown into it and totally owns the name 😊 we’ve not met another one either and she’s got a big enough character to pull off the mispronunciations (think Gaelic)

I’ve got the choice for DC2, so watch me hate the name after 6 months 😂

MummySharn · 19/02/2020 01:29

@username1724 my DD is Ava and I adore her name, I honestly don’t think there’s a nicer name out there (obviously I’m biased).

DS is Jack. I love both their names as I can imagine them working for a baby, a child and an adult.

Nowayorhighway · 20/02/2020 14:05

Yes, I still love them all. The only thing I dislike is the fact DC2’s name has become super popular over the past few years, it wasn’t even in the top 100 when she was born. An A list celeb used it as her DD’s middle name and it’s blown up, I’m hugely disappointed.

DancerOnIce · 20/02/2020 20:19

I really dislike dd2’s name. It’s Harriet. Which isn't a bad name! I just don’t feel natural using any of the shortenings, and it’s a bit long. Hopefully she’ll grow into it. Still love dd1’s name even though it isn’t to everyone’s taste. I prefer their middle names though, but dd1’s wouldn’t suit her as much as her first name. And dd2’s doesn’t go with our surname

Treaclepie19 · 21/02/2020 18:31

Ds1 is Xander and DS2 Jesse (born sleeping as had to have a TFMR)
Pregnant again and have my sibling naming hat on 💕

Treaclepie19 · 21/02/2020 18:32

Completely missed the sentence where I was going to say I love both of their names. DS1 is 4.

itmsylifeitsnowornever · 21/02/2020 20:52

My kids are...
Matilda. She's 8. Love her name but she goes by Maddie. She was originally going to be Tilly but ended up being Mattie which somehow became Maddie. So most people think she is Madeleine or Madison. It was a toss up between Madeleine and Matilda so I do sometimes which we had gone with Madeleine.

Annabelle.
I still love her name though we call her Annie which suits her more than Annabelle. She is the only Annabelle in her school but there are lots of Anna's, Annie's, Isabelle's, Bella's etc.

Beatrice.
I was never 100% on her name and it was only when DH agreed her nickname could be Trixie which I adore, that I agreed to Beatrice. I dislike that the spelling is "Beat Rice" as if beating rice!

Eleanor.
My sweet baby girl who passed away shortly after she was born. I love her name.

Hushabyelullaby · 27/02/2020 17:39

I love my DD's name (almost 13), it's unusual but not weird or wacky. Everyone she introduces herself to comments on how lovely it is. We've only ever met one other.

porple · 27/02/2020 17:49

i love DS’s name 3 years on
