Just that :-)

I've been a Becki my whole life. Nothing wrong with it as a nickname. The Beyonce crap doesn't bother me. My hair is amazing.

When I see people referred to as "Becky" on Twitter for the crime of being of a certain race/class/role, I just laugh and decide I will defend my name.

Rebecca is a great name and I don't think it dates as badly as some other names, none of which I will mention as I've realised how crap it is to see random strangers hating on your name.

PrettyyGood · 14/02/2020 11:34

So dated, boring and unimaginative. I don't like it personally

Sexnotgender · 14/02/2020 11:35

Timeless, I know a toddler called Rebecca, it’s lovely.

AlexaShutUp · 14/02/2020 11:37

So dated, boring and unimaginative.

I think lots of classic names could be accused of being "boring and unimaginative". That's a risk I'd be willing to take tbh - most "interesting and imaginative" names are either ridiculous, pretentious or just plain odd!

74NewStreet · 14/02/2020 11:39

It’s the imaginative names I normally wince at, to be perfectly honest!

userabcname · 14/02/2020 12:19

Dated to me, there were lots of Rebeccas when I was at school. I don't like it personally.

inwood · 14/02/2020 12:23

Timeless.

I only three, one I went to school with so mid 40s, one a friends daughter aged 8 and she is Rebecca, never Becky and one at work who is Rebekah. I think but stand to be corrected that that is the Jewish spelling.

Dontlikethename · 14/02/2020 12:33

I’m a Rebecca. I’ve always hated my name. It doesn’t feel like me. I do think it’s timeless, but when I was at school I never met another Rebecca. The name is hard sounding and I don’t like Becky either. If people call me Rebecca it feels overly formal. Becky sounds too childish. I also always get called Rachael!! ALL the time!

Yika · 14/02/2020 12:33

Timeless.

Biancadelrioisback · 14/02/2020 12:36

I'm a Rebecca and I am just 30

Chaiwala · 14/02/2020 12:38

See it as dated...
I see it along the lines of Rachel/Jessica/Jennifer which I see as dated.

There are more timeless classics such as:
Sophie/Hannah/Emily
(Though they may seem dated in future)

And the core classics such as:
Elizabeth/Catherine/Victoria/Alexandra

20viona · 14/02/2020 12:40

Dated

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/02/2020 13:39

I am from the 60s and Emily and Hannah I always associated them as old people’s names.

They seem quite dated from my POV.

Rebecca, Rachael etc have been around for a couple of thousand years and I don’t think they really ever go out of fashion.

They might not be used as often but definitely never go away

goodiegoodieyumyum · 14/02/2020 13:43

I thought you were asking about the movie

Mamabear88 · 14/02/2020 13:52

It's my name too so i'm also biased haha but I like it.

@VirtualHamster - I'm 31 so not all of us are approaching 40 quite yet!

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/02/2020 14:06

I know 20+ year old Rebecca’s
I know teenage Rebecca’s and School age and pre school age Rebecca’s

BakewellTarts · 14/02/2020 14:08

I have an 11 year old Rebecca...obviously love the name and think it's timeless.

AlexaShutUp · 14/02/2020 14:49

There are more timeless classics such as:
Sophie/Hannah/Emily

Love all of these names, but Rebecca falls into the same category for me.

BaronessBomburst · 14/02/2020 15:00

I think it's timeless, and don't associate it with the 90s. Confused
I only know one Rebecca and she is never shortened to anything else.
Go for it!

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/02/2020 16:44

Dated

BowStreetStunner · 14/02/2020 16:47

Timeless...speaking as a Rebecca!

AgathaVanHelsing · 14/02/2020 16:50

Dated and ugly

Whatsyourflava · 14/02/2020 16:50

@AlexaShutUp it doesn’t fall into the same category if you look at the statistics though. Sophie and Emily still well within the top 10 names, hannah in the top 60. Whereas Rebecca is about to leave the top 200 names. It’s totally nose dived. So that does make it the epitome of “dated” in the same way Kate and Sarah is, but I don’t think everyone will see dated as a bad thing anyway, it’s just personal taste

ChimpyChops · 14/02/2020 16:52

Timeless.

My favourite 💖

MissingMySleep · 14/02/2020 16:53

lovely name
