Don't love any boy names!

I'm 28 weeks with my first and gone off all the names I originally liked! I want something classic-ish but not too popular, and really like one syllable names that can't be shortened.

This is my shortlist, such as it is:
Jude
Seth
Dex
Quinn

Opinions and suggestions welcome Smile

Seth is an awesome name - I'm biased as I have a 6yr old Seth. I think it's cool whilst still being pretty classical. I love that it can't be shortened although he tends to get it lengthened at school to Sethie but I'm sure they'll grow out of it! I love Jude too for the same reasons.

lauryloo · 09/02/2020 09:22

Same. 26 weeks here and I think it's because I'm not fussed on having another boy 😂

rmack19 · 09/02/2020 09:27

I was all set for girl's names as I was convinced it was a girl!

Seth, Quinn and Jude are great names. Not a fan of dex. Otis is similar to your list, also Otto, Rex, Zach, Finn, Cole.

Pippilsngstrumpf · 09/02/2020 10:59

Quinn and Seth are great names. Strong, classic and cool! I particularly like Quinn as Q is an unusual initial.

Lavenderblues · 09/02/2020 11:01

Jude and Quinn are lovely.

How about Rex?

littlejalapeno · 09/02/2020 11:04

Any family names of granddads or great uncles who you were close with?

Grufallosfriends · 09/02/2020 11:06

I really like Quinn (biased Smile as we have one).

I also like Seth although find the pronunciation a little difficult!

rmack19 · 09/02/2020 11:14

@littlejalapeno no not really, long line of David's in the family but not keen on that.

I do really like Seth but I'm a teacher and I had a really naughty one last year! Although by that token I'm sure I could find a way to rule out lots of names 😂

Like Quinn but none of my family seem keen on that. I also have quite a strong 'in' sound in my surname - not sure if it will sound cool or daft!

Hmmm, fav character from a book or film? (within reason obviously- although I do know a baby Bruce!)

What about DHs side of the family? Any important names?

Do you have heritage from another country and could use a name from there, or if not, a very british one?

Are you very posh? I which case you could give baby a name that normal people would give to a dog? (Sorry that was a joke, no offence meant!)

Do you like nature? Could go for an outdoorsy/tree/plant name. Though if you’re a geography teacher it could go either way with that...

We had one name for a boy which was my grandpas name, and were stumped with girls names so I really feel your pain! We also joked about using Felix as a middle name, as it was DPs fav book character when he was growing up. I couldn’t hear the name without also hearing “the cat” so initially vetoed. But in the end DS was such a happy little boy and it suited him so we changed his birth certificate to include it. So you can always change your mind later if you look at baby and think, actually he does look like a David after all.

Jude and Seth are nice, Dex is odd.

rmack19 · 09/02/2020 12:39

@littlejalapeno thank you for your help. I'm not posh! Nor a geography teacher. I'm teach English - my dog is named after a book character. I'm going to be doing it solo (aged 40 not met anyone so he's a donor baby 💜) so have free reign to name him whatever I like!

My son is Jude and I adore his name! It’s short and cool but also classic as it’s a biblical name. We get so many positive comments on his name. I’m so glad we used it. Seth was on our list too but we found so many people struggle with the TH sound it put us off.
