Don't love any boy names!

I'm 28 weeks with my first and gone off all the names I originally liked! I want something classic-ish but not too popular, and really like one syllable names that can't be shortened.

This is my shortlist, such as it is:
Jude
Seth
Dex
Quinn

Opinions and suggestions welcome Smile

My boy is called Jude and I adore it still. A lot of people still comment on what a lovely name it is. It really is.

Poppydaisies · 09/02/2020 20:32

Jude means Jew in German, pronounced Yoo deh!

So it's not a name that travels that well internationally. That would put me off.

PlantPotting · 09/02/2020 21:30

Jude is really great and so is Seth

Maduixa · 10/02/2020 01:50

I like your list, except for Dex which seems like a nickname. Would probably choose Seth, of your current choices.

I have a 3yo Seth. We did call him Sethy when he was younger and that helped him past the pronunciation. His speech is pretty clear so he can say it fine. I did find that where I lived before it was quite unusual and I had to repeat myself when people asked me what his name was as they thought I was saying Steph.

Riv12345 · 10/02/2020 05:10

Jude is a lovely name

3rdNamechange · 10/02/2020 05:24

@gruffalosfriends. Jew would put you off ?Confused

Grufallosfriends · 10/02/2020 06:56

Yes, the word Jude in German has very sad associations.

Marahute · 10/02/2020 15:05

Quinn! I love that name so much for a boy. Would have been my daughter's name, but she wasn't a he in the end (as I was convinced was the case when pregnant!).

Whatsyourflava · 10/02/2020 15:34

My only worry with Quinn is it sounds like Quim

Grufallosfriends · 10/02/2020 16:27

We know a 15 year old Quinn. Great name and Q is a cool initial.

No idea what quim is but it doesn't even sound like Quinn!

Whatsyourflava · 10/02/2020 16:33

@Grufallosfriends quim is a woman’s genitals

I mean Quinn and Quim aren’t that different are they. It’s hardly like I’m saying they’re exactly the same!

Maduixa · 11/02/2020 18:55

Quim is a completely normal/standard/common nickname for the Catalan and Portuguese name Joaquim - like Joaquín in Spanish or Jochim in German. Maybe don't use it in the UK, if you know a lot of people who lack all impulse control and like to read Victorian pornography and make fun of children.

Quinn is unrelated.

littlejalapeno · 11/02/2020 22:03

Hey @rmack19 hope you’ve had some inspiration from the names suggested! I just wanted to say congratulations, having a little boy is so lovely, my DS has just started to give us kisses- you have so much to look forward to. Lol not be be gushy or anything- this was my shortlist of names, including the one we chose for DS, all the rest were vetoed (including the literary one 😉) at least you don’t have to put up with someone vetoing your choices 😂 good luck x

Jude here gets called Nude Jude in the playground. Also reminds me of Judas so it’s. No from me

Pippilangstrumpfi · 12/02/2020 10:38

I like Quinn and Dex if short for Dexter.

Don't like Jude at all.
